Except that podcaster. Oops. |
Maybe. But it still looks bad for Baldoni. Two of Lively's costars on this specific film came out immediately and strongly in support of her. If the situation was more complex, they would know because they were there. And they could have chosen to say nothing or said something more noncommittal. The complaint came out right before the holidays and it would have been pretty easy to lay low for at least a week and get a sense of the situation before speaking up. They chose not to. Her Sisterhood casemates don't have a ton to gain by speaking out so strongly in her favor. America Ferrera's career is going really well thanks to Barbie. Alexis Bledel has a nice niche in prestige TV. Amber Tamblyn works pretty consistently, is well liked and well connected in the industry, and does a lot of charitable work. Choosing to come out with a forceful statement indicates they have little doubt here, and their statement also specifically references that they "saw" Lively fighting for a safer workplace during the filming of the movie, indicating they had knowledge of what was going on as it was happening. These are pretty persuasive for Lively. Meanwhile it looks very bad for Baldoni that his podcast co-host quit immediately and has said nothing in support. This is someone who worked closely with him recently. Same with the actors on the last two movies he directed. Not even a tepid "I had a great working relationship with Justin and never saw him behave in an inappropriate way," which would leave open the possibility that if it turns out that he misbehaved elsewhere, they simply didn't know. Only Gina Rodriguez has come out in support of him. Her statement is very strong, so I do think it's meaningful. But I find the silence of people like Neve Campbell and Cole Sprouse interesting given that other actors from It Ends With Us have spoken up... in favor of Lively. |
She hasn’t accused him of any misbehavior with her. |
Putting aside This Ends With Us, the no one has previously accused him of misbehavior. Nor has anyone else come publicly forward with their own complaints about his behavior on This Ends With Us. It’s only Blake. She’s allegedly there’s others, but the studio said they received no complaints. The Gossip Girl cast has been very very quiet. Blake was 16 when Traveling Pants came out, she might as well have gone back to middle school for some character references. |

She was trying to buy the rights to the sequel to It Ends With Us from Justin and he wouldn’t sell. |
She also hasn't said a word in support or even said "I didn't experience any inappropriate behavior in working with him." It's been weeks and Baldoni could definitely use the backup. This is someone who worked in very close proximity to him for several years. I find that odd. Especially since there's a third host, Jamey Heath, who is also mentioned in Lively's complaint (he was a co-producer on It Ends With Us and the one Lively accuses of entering the makeup trailer while she was topless and having body makeup applied and insisting on having a conversation with her in that state). One potential reason for her silence could be that she is a potential witness in both Lively's lawsuit and any potential lawsuit Baldoni might file against Lively. I wonder of Baldoni or Heath ever talked about Lively or what happened on the set with Plank. |
More realistically, it’s a terrible optic in 2025 for someone whose entire brand is feminism to say she doesn’t believe a fellow woman. She pulled back from the podcast a few months ago, which says to me she wasn’t sure what to do, not that she was sure he was some creep. Liz Plank was in an impossible situation, and in fact very few people are going to publicly support anyone who is accused of what he’s been accused of. He’s maybe got his mom. |

Can you summarize for those of us not on TikTok? |
OR she believes the allegations in part because she knows Baldoni and Heath well enough to know if the allegations against them seem like something they would do, and cut ties the second the complaint was out there to figure out what to do about the fact that she's been hosting a podcast about toxic masculinity with two men who have the ability to be pretty toxic males for three years. Gina Rodriguez, his costar from Jane the Virgin, did come out strongly with a statement in support of him. So it's not like no one will speak up. But Rodriguez last worked with him 6 years ago. Plank would be more familiar with his current behavior. So would the actors on the last two movies he directed, not one of whom has spoken up. It makes me wonder if he's been engaging in borderline behavior for a few years, perhaps as his directing career has warmed up, that wasn't present earlier in his career. He has spoken a lot about his own toxic masculine behavior and thinking and how he has worked to overcome it. Maybe being a director, becoming more successful, getting the approval of others as "one of the good guys" pumped up his ego I'm a way that made it harder to suppress some of what he has himself admitted are instinctual behaviors for him. |

Something I just thought about: Baldoni's life had become kind of insular in recent years through is production company. He hosted this podcast with Heath and Liz Plank, then he's directing this movie and Heath is there with him the whole way. His wife is good friends with Heath's wife. He is clearly close to others at Wayfarer who were also very involved with production of the movie, and the company also produces the podcast.
I have worked in one very toxic work environment in my life. There was harassment (both sexual and just regular old harassment) there, of me and others. A major reason it was so toxic is that the environment was incredibly insular. The people who ran the company were all close friends. It was common to hire family and friends for key roles (sometimes where they were clearly not qualified). Most people who worked there socialized primarily with people who worked there. I remember have by a few conversations with colleagues there where I would explain why some of the behavior there really bothered me, and that nowhere I'd ever worked before would a lot of it have been possible. Stuff like jokingly swatting someone on the butt as a greeting, asking extremely personal questions about people's sex lives, and people frequently becoming real manically involved with direct bosses or subordinates. Some of the people there really had no idea why this stuff bothered some of us because they did not have the perspective of working places where that didn't go on. They also had a high level of trust with each other because of the personal relationships and couldn't understand why those of us who were "outsiders", who had social circles and families not involved with this job and had really come there just to work, found this behavior invasive or inappropriate. |

He’d seem a lot more credible if he lost the pinky ring |
This. No one wants to stand up and defend someone accused of harassment in today’s woke environment. I personally don’t think woody Allen is a pedophile, but you can bet I’m not going to pronounce that in many of my female social circles. Why would I want the headache? |
Anything to distract from Blake’s obvious lying in this clip. Nice. |
I’m actually more team Jason but I can admit that he doesn’t help himself with his cheesy aesthetic. Relax |
