Why on earth wouls SS hire a person with a rap sheet? Maybe the perp used a different name?

Maybe he didn't run a background check. Maybe he ran it but didn't care. Maybe he was not in charge of hiring. Who knows why people do what they do.

Would you rather they never hire felons and create an even bigger societal problem?

Wow, just wow. If it would have prevented their them and their housekeeper from being murdered, yes. He is a small business owner, not the federal government.

Probably not in exactly the same way. I mean, when a white person commits a murder, it doesn't further the majority's fear of and anger at white people in general. As a white person, it just doesn't have the same effect.

then you are crazy. I am white and I remember feeling sick about the Petit murders, a nice family who's life was turned upside down suddenly by a couple of thugs, beaten and sexually assaulted and then murdered even after the perps got the money, in way that was very very similar to what happened to the Sav. family. it's the type of violent, totally senseless murders that fuels the outrage and fear (can something like that happen to my family?), certainly not the color of the skin of the people who did it. ask Dr. Petit if he is relieved that his wife was raped and strangled by a white guy instead of a black guy.

You misunderstand. I'm not saying the crime isn't sickening regardless. I'm saying that there is an extra racial dimension in this case. The crime itself is not less sick, or more sick, based on the race of the perpetrator.

why? Lots of people are brutally murdered. You've all lost all sense of reality.

THANK YOU. This is a horrible tragedy, but let's be honest. Horrible crimes like this happen in rich and poor neighborhoods across America every week.

I doubt crimes like this are a common occurrence. I think it is a rare individual who can cause all the mayhem he did. His life must be absolutely devoid of any hope.

No, actually he could just be a psychopath. Feeling hopeless doesn't allow you to torture a little boy.

So I guess he is just a "bad seed" and this was just his destiny? This, jail or a mental institution? Sounds pretty hopeless to me.

They have scanned brains of serial killers and murderers and they are different. There are also biochemical differences as well.

Look at some children from horrific abuse situations that don't turn to crime and violence.

It's hard to stomach--but- yes- there are bad seeds.

Right. Plus, I'm sure he was raised by a loving, married mom and dad who took him to church regularly and raised him to be a good citizen.

Church attendance would have been the deciding factor. Excellent point.

Please tell me you don't believe this. Some of the most underhanded people I know are sure to be seen at church every week.

Me, too but we should start a new thread.

This is the scariest possible scenario.

See all of you!! This family did NOTHING to cause this. Their housekeepers were NOT involved. It wasn't the business or the people they employed in their home.

DO YOU SEE THAT!!?? A random socio-path.

No one deserves what happened. No one. But this isn't a random crime. There is an association between the family (likely the father's many businesses which do not appear to have been all above board) and Wint. Eventually more will come out. The story does not add up as it is, and it is obvious that the police are withholding plenty of information.

True.
Yes, there is a lot of speculation, we still dont know what the motive is, ok maybe cash, but we cannot assert if random or premeditated, and if this guy was the actual killer (did he actually commit the acts) and if he was acting alone or with others or under the direction of someone else, still maybe someone close to the family or an enemy.
Has police released details of the torture or assault? It is over a week so these details should emerge right?
All we know is he ate pizza on Wed night in their house. And given that they were possibly hostage for more than 15 hrs given the husband came home around 6 pm, have they not found additional fingerprints or evidence in the entire house?

I do hope they get this person alive so they can elicit details from him.

I have a feeling the people who post things like- felons shouldn't be hired- are the same people who would complain about welfare and the taxpayers subsidizing felons.

All of these points put together could have been a deciding factor in the way he lived his life as an adult, you'd better believe it.

No, religion has no factor in whether someone becomes a killer or not -- even serial killers are religious. Remember killers like the man who did this heinous crime are pyschopaths, they do not have empathy for others, and therefore see no conflict between their crimes and their religion.

Also, don't believe for a second that just because someone claims to be religious that they actually are religious. Ted Bundy used to join churches just to find victims.

Torturing and murdering four people one of whom was a child is prima facie evidence of being a psychopath but there is no evidence he is a serial killer. The evidence suggests the motivation was money pure and simple. I doubt this guy would ever claim to be religious or that religion had any relevance in his life or in the lives of those with whom he associated.

And those who jumped to those conclusions are DC's brightest, wealthiest citizens?! (shuddering at the thought) Unbelievable.

Your predictably unsuccessful "hate the rich" stance is helping, how?

"It takes a village", my arse.

Not hiring him would not have prevented him from doing what he did. It would've prevented him from targeting SS but he would've picked another victim. Punishing all convicted felons for the actions of a few is what is putting them on the streets and causing them to turn back to drugs and crime.
