2030 Girls Lacrosse

My little sister plays for M&D Red. Some players from her team think that they are going to play Varsity as freshmen. Some of them aren’t yet good enough to even play JV as freshmen. They also do not realize that the school you go to does not make you a good player. Star players graduating from the school you go to has nothing to do with how good of a player you are. You must already be great on your own to make Varsity at schools like SPSG, Maryvale, and McDonogh. Some 2030s are not yet wise enough to realize that it is much better to play JV and actually get to play and grow as a player and then go up to Varsity, than to make varsity and never get to dress or play for 2-3 years. Parents need to be more honest with all these players and stop telling them that they are perfect. High school separates out the ok/average players from the stars. IMHO

1) M&D Black - solid and consistent. Great coaching. New talent added. Could be unbeatable if they would trim one or two players who aren’t as good as the others but are protected because being great friends with the coaches kids
2) MDU - keeps the same girls and same plays which is why Black is going to top them this year
3) HG - have some strong talent but also have a few who aren’t that good but will never be cut. Could be better if they got rid of the dead weight
4) BLC - Lost their best player to M&D two years ago. Girls have already begun to transition since they don’t have a high school team
5) Coppermine - team is definitely playing stronger and better than last year. Not strong enough to break the top tier yet
6) Skywalkers - They are truly not a #5 team. They were tied with M&D Red until the last couple minutes of the game.
7) M&D Red - got a new player from Black. Goalies are much better. Got rid of problem coach. Gave Skywalkers and Coppermine a tough time
8) YJ DMV - Strong group of DC/Bethesda girls with talent. Bright future

Where is the love for Coppermine West? They are a top 8 team, in my opinion

M&D 2030 Red is very good, and they are an exception for the club as a whole.

Most of the M&D’s Red teams range from 90 to 150 in the national rankings.

But the 2030s have been anywhere from 20 to 35 depending on the week. Their peak was last fall, more than a year ago, when they were between 20 and 22.

We will see whether they can surpass that ranking with a strong spring and summer. But they are definitely outperforming what most people expect from an M&D Red team.

Mathematically, it’s so hard for B teams to break into top 25 because the schedules, if you play a team with an 85 score, even a ten pt win knocks you out of a top 10 ranking.

This happens sometimes (aberration and not the rule) with Hero’s White too. I think it’d be amazing for these clubs to have their A teams in the top 1-10 and the B teams top 10-25 (guess that’d be two A teams, an AI and AII) but that rarely happens because the clubs don’t want the B teams nipping at the heels of their A teams and because people historically haven’t wanted to be with a B team and would rather be with Coppermine Black etc. But it’d be cool for this to get stood on its head and for these Red/White teams to start consistently having top 20 contenders. Then I think people would want to be on M&D Red and Hero’s White instead of another lower club’s A team.

Maryland United has placed their A and B teams in the A NGLL division. I think I saw that for their 2034s. Did not see if it was done by them in other years or done by other clubs. Mathematically, is it better to somewhat struggle in the A division or kill it in the B division, for rankings?

Better to struggle in A then kill it in B but ngll is only 8 games, it’s the tournaments on fall and summer that really sets the rankings.

The biggest match-ups next weekend look to be:

MDU East vs. Hero's Green
BLC vs. Coppermine Black
M&D Black vs. Coppermine Black

Skywalkers doesn't have a tough game for a while.

There are 2 instances I can remember of B teams that were top 20 teams. 2026 HW, they beat HG and then the team broke up. All the good girls left for A teams. The other is 2029 HW, top 20 team past season. Some of their top players have moved on and not as good this season. Eventually the top players from these teams want to play for the best team they can so it doesn't last.

I would be interested to see what happens with M&D Red after this summer. Several of those kids could be on A teams.

2026 M&D Black was not as strong until the HW breakup. They frequently lost to HW until the shakeup and M&D didn't have a Red team until then.

2029 HW saw several girls leave for SW Blue and other A teams.

Mnd Red is good. Their current ranking is reflective of where the team is at. When they were the ranked 22 after fall of last season, that was because of an easy schedule. When they played tough competition, they finished at 44. They are not as good as the 2026 and 2029 Heros white teams were. Maybe they get there by the end of this season.

Having pre-tryout evaluations seems like a nice idea so that the evaluators have more than one 90 minute look at a player among a massive group, however having a Middle School Academy gives the impression that a lot of the team rosters may already be set.

Having the tryouts (for the 2030s) in mid-June also really forces the decision and takes the other clubs out of contention, smart move by Capital to remove the competition.

Other than all the BLC girls who have nowhere else to go, who else will try out for Capital?

Every year Capital has 100+ girls come to their tryouts and they come from all over.

Here's how I would rank them:

1. YJMA- Definitely being held back
2. MDU- One player holding the rest of the team up
3. M&D Black- No explanation
4. HG- Good team
5. BLC- Some good players, some deadweight
6. Coppermine- Strong, but not strong enough
7. M&D Red- Their ok but some aren't great
8. SW- No explanation
