Why aren't we talking about Novak Djokovic

I hope” Novax” sticks it to them big time. Not because I am against vaccines but because I hate crazy radicals of all colors and types. And Australian govt is exactly that.

Are you an Australian citizen? If not, why does it matter what you think. Australian citizens get to weigh in on the rules for entry into their country (and many many more are against Novak's entry/playing), and in American we weigh in on who comes to our country. I can't imagine Americans taking it to well if a bunch of foreigners were arguing we should allow someone in against our rules.

Are you kidding?
Have you been paying attention to our southern border?

Regardless, their Covid strategy has been insane and to no avail. They have lock downs, "camps" for Covid patients, massive restrictions and other idiotic policies that have not worked.
The immigration office had approved Djokovic's entry. The PM overturned it. Glad the judge saw the folly in it all.
And, I don't have any problem judging Australia for their insanity. I went to the AO a few years ago. It was great and the Australian people were fabulous. It is hard to believe that they would tolerate the authoritarian measures their govt. has put in place. TBH - I think the only reason our govt. hasn't taken similar steps is the massive push back they have received from citizens and businesses.
I am not a big Djokovic fan and I hope he doesn't win this tournament. But, given the fact that he got the green light to come, he should be given the opportunity.

Fake positive test as explained here.

Because how else would he get in? Getting Covid the last minute was the only way.
Absurd.

What the made up stuff on Fox? So let me get this right. You want to stop any immigration with the full force of the government but if the government enforces the rules or immigration laws during a pandemic it’s an authoritarian state? Also I guess you would be okay if Texas tennis association over ruling the federal government immigration laws?

CNN now reporting that part of the border entry forms as whether you have been in any other country in the 14 days prior to your arrival and he said no. But photos show that he was in Spain AND Serbia.

I also doubt that he really had covid in December. It’s just too convenient and too close to the tournament.

This is not what I read. I read that Tennis Australia went and cleared it with the Victorian (state) office getting him a medical exemption, but that neither Tennis Australia, nor the Victorian office spoke with the federal immigration office. When Djokovic arrived, the Australian Border Force, which is part of the federal government, rejected the medical exemption saying that he had not been cleared by the national authorities for a medical exemption to allow entry. That was a pretty serious omission. Someone at Tennis Australia really screwed up on that, by not running it by the federal border authorities.

The equivalent is like an international player coming to the US to play in the US Open and USTA contacts the New York state offices, gets a medical exemption, but does not contact the US Customs and Border Police and just let him try to enter the country with state and tennis exemption but not following federal policies.

I don't blame the ABF or the Australian federal government for what they did. They have had a very strict policy that has been advertised for months. The players, their coaches and TA have known about the Australian visa policies since the US Open and someone should have realized that they needed to talk to federal authorities to make sure that this was cleared before he arrived in Melbourne. The fact that no one spoke with ABF before Djokovic stepped off the plane is just a terrible mistake. He is lucky that the judge made an allowance because by federal law, Djokovic was in visa violation, should have been refused entrance to Australia and should have been banned from the country for 3 years. The law was clear and whether he was misled by TA and the Victoria state government or not, he was still in violation of the law.

Oh, and the story is on several new sources, but here is one from WaPo that does say that TA and Victorian officials gave the medical exemption without clearing it with the federal authorities:
