Covid Relief Bill thread

But yet I don't see of those folks very vocal or animated in their displeasure of the measly $600 stimulus check legislators decided to give out.

How come?

What planet do you live on? There’s universal bipartisan displeasure at this amount.

So you suspect state capitols and the Capitol here in DC will be swarmed with protestors of a bi-partisan makeup over the next few days?
Or is the inconvenience of wearing a mask the only thing that riles people up enough to travel cross country and raise hell outside legislative buildings?

Did Pelosi put the $1.9B "deal" offered by a non-Senator on the House floor for a vote?

Has McConnell or Pelosi put the $900 billion current package to the floor for a vote yet? No. Negotiations happen first, agreements move forward, and floor votes at the last second as we're seeing right now.

Step 1: House passes bill (this happened in May)
Step 2: Senate passes bill (this never happened)
Step 3: Houses have a compromise conference
Step 4: Each house approves compromise bill
Step 5: Bill goes to White House

Since the Senate never passed a bill, step 3 never happened.

So why is this Pelosi's fault?

Shhhhh, you’re just confusing things with facts and logic.

Those people are mentally and emotionally disturbed, wearing a mask just sets them off.

Agree. I know a ton of people making $150k household who lost no income since March, in fact saved on childcare, and received BOTH rounds of stimulus. $150k is a very common/comfortable HHI in middle COL areas. These people don’t need stimulus.

I don't get it either. And I say this as someone who lost my job in hospitality due to COVID and has since found something in a different field. I'm back on my feet but so many of my friends, especially those who own businesses, are not and will not be for a long while, if ever. Meanwhile, I keep hearing from others how they've saved so much during the pandemic and $600 would mean very little to them and would sit in their bank account. I'm grateful that some relief is coming but it would be more helpful if it was going to the right people.

We don't have the time or luxury to let perfect be the enemy of good. Get it now?

Pelosi passed a bill in May. The Republicans has plenty of time to perfect it if they had any interest in helping people.

Because the cost and complexity of the administrative apparatus needed to perform such a task would take too long to set up and cost too much to administer. This is an emergency and we cannot wait for such a bureaucracy.

AGAIN, President Trump and Secretary Mnuchin are not Senators. You’d think Senator Cornyn would know that, but he’s too busy riding the BS blame Nancy train.

I work in healthcare so I'm fortunate to have a job. I know many have lost their job and I feel for them. However, we are desperate to hire in healthcare. You don't have to be a nurse or other healthcare professional. We are desperate for people to work as transporters, registration clerks, patient care assistants, safety sitters, phlebotomists, dietary techs, housekeepers... the list goes on and on. These are all jobs that offer a few weeks of OJT and you're good to go.

I don't understand why people who have lost their job are not applying for these positions. They are not highly paid, we pay in the $13-18 per hour range plus shift and weekend differential, but some money and benefits is better than no money and benefits. Oh, and benefit cost is sliding scale based on wage so the cost to insure yourself is zero and to insure your family is kept low.

Because who is supposed to take care of their kids while schools are closed and they are at work? They'd have to pay someone at least that much to watch them. And $13-18 per hour isn't worth the health risk of working in a hospital right now if unemployment will pay $600 per week. It's not that people are lazy--some don't have a lot of options due to life circumstances. If hospitals are so desperate, pay people a livable wage.

The last bill expired in July, right? Apparently "time" and "emergency" has a different meaning for the government.

They don't, they only want to help their rich donors.
