Ranked by who? Youth Soccer? GotSoccer? And, no, I wouldn't have Metro in the top 5, likely not the top ten. But we aren't talking about Metro United now are we? How can VDA have a higher ranking than MD United who managed to win a Gold Round game and tie the rest while VDA got knocked out into Silver? Sure they won in the silver games but then again, they were the silver teams. |
They got knocked out by the champion. They are also ranked higher in the ECNL due to overall record. They also played the same team in the playoffs (washington) and won by the same margins (+1).. VDA played the champ in the 1st game. Maryland did not. See how that works. As I said before, I believe the teams are equal. I would place both teams on par with Baltimore Armour and higher than the remaining. But again, that's what competetion is for. |
VDA didn't get knocked out by the Champions because VDA did not play in the 32 team Champions League Tournament. That Championship game has not been played yet. No VDA lost 3-0 to the 33rd best team in ECNL. Period. |
The team won the North American Cup which was in the 2nd tier as I stated before. Only two teams in our region qualified for the North American cup. VDA and Maryland U. Of the two, VDA is ranked higher.. |
Yes, second tier meaning the winner of that group is the 33rd best ECNL team. Of course only two teams qualify for the North American Cup because you have to finish 5th or 6th. |
|
VDA was just one loss away from not going to the North American Cup. They were closer to not qualifying for the North American Cup than they were to qualifying for the Champions League Tournament, yet somehow they are ranked 2nd in the region in your eyes.
|
VDA had 9 draws this year too. If two of those draws become wins, they are in champions league. The visceral reaction to anyone suggesting any of the 04-07 vda teams are or will be good is great. Why are you so mad fcv and metro dads? |
They could also be losses. |
True but I think 2 ties to loudoun and and 2 ties to scu are more likely to be wins in the fall than losses. |
Metro United uses preseason friendly results to argue points consistently. In the 05 age group, a preseason friendly victory has defined MU, FCV, and VDA on this forum. At least this was a postseason before playoffs where both teams were trying to win. RU is still better but that’s a great result for vda. |
You don't think Loudoun added talent? |
And when MU parents make such claims regarding friendlies in the future feel free to adjust your rankings accordingly.

Post season playoffs ranking are determined by overall record (league plus showcases). So no, they were not one game away from being bumped down. They were 11-5-10 with a +14 goal differential. It was the ties that kept them out of the Champions league. Not the 5 loses. Again, 26 games with 5 loses.
9: Richmond 38: VDA 45: Maryland U 54: BRYC 58: Bethesda 62: Loudoun 70: McLean VDA and Maryland both beat #34 last weekend (Washington Premier). This is were the season ended off. I think McLean will rise up in this age group next year. Go with facts. Not emotions. You'll do better |
VDA 06 is a very, very good team. No argument there. VDA will be a force in the coming years, but that doesn't mean the 04's and older are. And the reason is simple, FCV and McLean already stocked up on talent before VDA on the girls side was in DA. Kids at PWSI and VSA moved on to other clubs. Now VDA is keeping those kids and the results are showing in the younger age groups. Just as they will with Loudoun as well at the younger ages. I'm not anti VDA. I just have a hard time reconciling VDA being 2nd in the region when they have not demonstratively proven to be better than either BRYC or MD United. To me they are all about the same level but until VDA shows it on the field this year, without knowing about some significant upgrade in talent or significant departure in talent at BRYC or MD United I just don't see a number 2 team there. The second issue is not really about VDA but the local dilution. The fact that one can even make the argument that a 6th place team in ECNL Mid Atlantic is the second best team in this region is pretty significant problem regarding dilution. And frankly, there isn't any team at the 04 age group in either DA or ECNL who performed significantly better than 5th or 6th place. ECNL BRYC 5th VDA 6th Loudoun 8th McLean 9th DA: FCV 1 Spirit MD 5th Arlington 6th Spirit VA 8th (last) That is pretty abysmal all around. When considering only these clubs by tiers: Top 15 DA teams and Top 15 ECNL teams all better than: FCV BRYC/Spirit MD Arlington/VDA/Loudoun McLean/Metro |
