Question for white Wilson parents -

Why was the average SAT math score for white students so low in 2017? 600?

Because their teachers need to dumb down everything given who's in the class.

OK, PP, you obviously want us to guess your agenda. Just put it out there. Then we can discuss it like adults.

Well, some us can discuss things like adults. But you can listen in.

Why not forced busing?

Hey bro, the Seventies are over.

Doesn't matter what era, if it's the only way to get DC schools integrated. Typically, people only object when it affects them personally.

Obviously.

If you put some kids zoned in the Janney cluster on some forced bus to Marion Barry High, you’d see a Brooks Brothers riot.

Exactly. Yet it happened across the south. Get it going in DC.

Only if you want to see white (and Asian) flight from the public schools and from the District itself.

Are you referring to those "oh, so liberal" parents who view those who resist busing in other areas as racist?

Rather, her opinion (shared by many, obviously), should lead one to consider WHICH boundaries should be trimmed. Therefore, if increasing the percentage of "white" students at Wilson is a significant concern when discussing the prospect of boundary review (as it obviously is for her, and many others), then what you have to do is trim the number of white students with access to Wilson, as part of the boundary review process.

That's clearly hard to do when Deal is a main feeder school. Maybe what you do is trim the number of "white" elementary schools that feed into Deal, and instead send them over to Hardy. Of course, you would then have to then prevent the expanded white population at Hardy from feeding into Wilson; they would have to go somewhere else, to a different high school. Hence, the discussion about the "New Western" that crops up a lot in these boards. But a consequence of this kind of discussion is that it annoys the same people who don't want "white" people to benefit from the boundary review at Wilson, because a "New Western" would be perceived as giving the White People something they don't deserve.

In the end, everyone simply needs to cooperate and stop being so hung up on race, IF overcrowding at Deal and Wilson is a problem that needs to be addressed. Otherwise, the problem just keeps getting worse and worse.

Changing the boundaries to make people commit to their schools EOTP is what I want for my schools rather than dream of WOTP access and I’m an EOTP Parent. (If not this I’d take a citywide lottery but that’s not happening and we know it.) The diversity of Wilson is of no concern to my children but a workable DCPS is.

Wilson is not majority white, moron.

Most of the students there are white and it is in a white neighborhood, so while they aren’t 50% (yet) what is your point moron

The PP was wrong. You are wrong. Hint: “most of the students” = the majority = 50% or more. Hint: Wilson is not majority or mostly or 50% or more of any one race or ethnic group.

Holy cow, you are not too bright.

Um... not great at math are you? I'm guessing you're not contributing to the rising test scores.

So who is the largest demographic of students?

99% of Hispanics are either fully or partially white in stupid US racial terms, so that's in fact a white majority.

In our school systems and when applying to college, the ones whose records I've seen do not check Caucasian. They check Hispanic.

A lot of white kids are checking the Hispanic box now. It’s a distinct advantage with colleges, and under the “Elizabeth Warren standard” almost anyone can make the claim...

It would be great to see the Asian percentage higher at Wilson. It would shift the culture of the school a bit and encourage more kids to get serious about their work.
