| You're right, it was a poor choice to spend that much time each day driving my child to a top DC elementary school |
| I meant the one before the PP. such negativity. |
Show some sympathy for those displaced from lamb due to this move and we will be nicer to you. Selfish white people. Why am I even surprised? |
What does "true Latino" mean? LAMB does not have a separate lottery for Spanish dominant children. I don't think the PCSB allows it. The demographics are changing because a broader group of families is entering the lottery. The way to get more Latinos and native speakers in the school is to increase outreach so that they are aware of the program and its separate lottery. I know the school had Spanish language brochures and targeted outreach this year but they could probably do more. As for the move, I suspect it is driven by real estate availability. The bus question is interesting. Someone should ask MV families how that bus is working out. I think the school almost cancelled it at one time. |
I agree with this sentiment. The school should engage in a discussion to see if it can help with bus issues, but that should not be an expectation. If anything, we need to pressure the DC govt to make that provision. Parents who are commuting to Lamb from the Hill or other far off distances, I am really impressed by your commitment. Even if bussing is provided and it makes the commute easier for you as parent, it is potentially a very long commute for your little one, esp. if we're talking PK-3 and PK-4. Sure, Lamb is great, but is it really worth it? |
| My only complaint is that I wish LAMB could move into Kingsbury for 2017-2018. This location will be so much better for ALL kids. The outdoor space alone is reason to smile. I, for one, cannot wait. |
|
Where is Kingsbury going? They serve many higher needs DC kids with disabilities -- many of them are placed there by their DCPS or charter school that has failed to serve them appropriately .
Those families are going to be affected -- and they all face many more challenges than a LAMB family -- and no one gives it a thought. Kingsbury families learned of it from DCUM. Could LAMB not have coordinated with Kingsbury at a minimum? |
Is that true? I heard they serve primarily MoVo kids so may be moving up that way. I'm not stating this as a fact, just what I heard. |
MoCo, I mean. |
|
So Kingsbury people are insisting on the Spec Needs board that Kingsbury isn't moving.
Someone is wrong, or perhaps they will co-locate? |
I don't know how many total students are enrolled at Kingsbury. There are 71 students there that DC OSSE is paying the tuition for -- 55 from DCPS; 16 from various charter schools. 692 DC special needs students total are in DC-funded private placements. |
If lamb wants to pressure the DC government to do so, they should. But this is not what other schools do. They actually care about their students so they have shuttles that they subsidize and administer. PP, I don't want to uproot my children from a school they know and love and a community they know and love. It is utterly disgraceful of you to imply that we should just leave. I am disgusted and unsurprised. I hope all of you support parents of wards 5 6 7 and 8 in pressuring the school to have shuttle buses in place for our children. |
Lamb and most lamb parents don't give a rats's a$$ about the Kingsbury students or any kids who can't attend lamb if it moves. They only care about moving to a fancy new building so they can convince themselves they're getting a free private education. Who cares about anything else? Hypocrites. |
