WHY do most men favor very thin women though?? Not exactly a sign of fertility. Embarrassing to admit but I love the willowy look, too. Is this all just programming or an innate preference? It seems the smartest thing a woman can do for herself is to get borderline underweight
|
Nope. With the gigantic portion sizes here (if we're talking USA), what's eating disordered is eating the entire thing, especially if you've got the side of fries and a soda. Americans really need to understand that the portion sizes in restaurants here are simply outrageous and are generally 2-3 times what's necessary/healthy. |
Programming. I don't know if most men do prefer that. I am a bisexual woman, and I absolutely love the look of women who are carrying a bit of extra weight. But you know, it's hard to even think of celebs who fit that mold, because there aren't any. I think that's why women have a distorted image (and some men that may not have the strongest hetero urges and are VERY concerned with what other men find desirable) of what men consider attractive. The fact is, most men like women that have thick thighs, a jiggly ass, boobs, etc. none of those things exist on a stick thin woman, hate to say. As Joe Manganiello said perfectly, "All too often in Hollywood actresses are super-skinny. As a man, my primal instincts don't kick in when they're that skinny. It's almost unhealthy. I like curves." |
That's crazy. Sounds like you have an ED. You have a healthy BMI. Be happy and love yourself. |
Conditioning from the porn industry/Hollywood. Think about the body type they hold up as perfect. A teeny tiny dancer's body (waif like, no belly fat, prominent clavicle and hip bones, thigh gap, visible ribs if the woman raises her arms) with big, fake boobs. That is a body type that does exist naturally (think someone like Misty Copeland) but it's pretty rare ime. Usually when you lose enough weight to be a size 0 or 2, or jeez 00, you don't have much fat in the boob area left. |
BMI isn't always a great measure. I have a small frame and do look like I can drop a few at a BMI of 22. I feel better and look better at 20-21. |
Misty Copepand doesn't fit this stereotype either, and that's part of the amazing thing about her rise up through the ballet corps. (The other notable thing isn't relevant to this discussion.) Her body is strong and powerful, not the typically waif-like body of classical dancers. The dance world is changing for the healthier, which is awesome. In my circle, I don't see a preference for very thin women. Total anecdata, I know, but most guys I know like women with some (natural) T&A. I'm in a field with a fair share of very thin women, but most of the people I know are either women who wear sizes 6-10ish or their partners. |
This is true. She is very muscular and toned but so are a lot of other ballerinas nowadays. I was referring more to the fact that she is thin (I'm sure she is a size 0 or 2 in Gap clothing) but still relatively well endowed for a ballerina. I would love to look like her and I suspect most other women would too. |
-1! Nothing tastes as good as creme brulee and cappuccino, topped off with Cristal! |
OK, but you're unlikely to get all your nutrients below 1000 cal/day -- it sounds like a quick trip to osteoarthritis!! |
|
Men like thin willowy women because they remind men of youth.
It's not programming, it's a biological imperative to procreate with lung healthy fertile women. Most young healthy girls are thin. |
So what do you do for fun instead of eat? |
Agree. I have a large frame and my BMI is 28. Yes, I'm overweight but not as overweight as a smaller woman with that BMI would look. I'm a size 12 at that BMI. |
I don't get it. The fertility thing is plausible, but when the guy and woman are both in their 40s, who cares about fertility? I've been slightly surprised that less attractive but thin women are more highly prized. I'm much more into a guy's face and mannerisms than his body shape. |
| It's proportions more than weight. |
