Those of you who are thin, how to do it? Do you workout like a mad woman daily; eat a really strict diet; count calories; skip meals; ED; etc.
It seems like everytime I turn around, I'm standing next to a thin woman and I feel like a hippo. I could stand to lose a few pounds and it seems like the thinner you are, the easier it is to maintain it. |
| Not OP but for the women who are going to come in and say "I just eat whatever I want, I'm lucky that way!" Cool and congrats- but please dont post because 1) We dont care 2) this thread is not for you, it's for women who have to work at it and have tips to share |

I'm average size, but in my experience over many many years and many many friends and acquaintances, I've come to conclusion there are two kinds of women who are naturally thin over about 35.
The first group is just naturally thin. Their mothers are thin, their sisters are thin, they bounce back relatively easily after pregnancy, etc. Some are more toned and work out more than others, but none of them would ever be overweight without a metabolic disorder or something like that. The second group is obsessed with being/staying thin. They work out religiously, they are fanatical about what they eat, etc. this group is not usually naturally thin, and many have been overweight at some point in their life – as children, as teens, post pregnancy etc. They are rightfully very proud of their appearance and prioritize it over most other things. |
Obviously it should just say "thin" and not "naturally thin" in the first paragraph. Durrrr. |
| I've never known a thin, happy, healthy woman. |
| Watch what I eat (but enjoy treats in moderation), drink TONS of water, exercise (in moderation), get my "beauty sleep," and weigh myself daily (or at least multiple times per week) so the weight doesn't sneak on. Track calories on MyFitnessPal if I need to lose a few. |
Sounds like you need to meet more people. |
| They are hungry all the time!! |
| Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels! |

I've always been thin - my fathers side of the family is tallish and thin. I'm in my late 40's and have gained some weight because I eat more junk and (honestly my adolecent son drives me to eat ice cream). If I stuck to my regular eating habits I'd bounce right back to thin. I have also never been a big eater.
Example: I went to happy hour yesterday and one of my coworkers had a huge appetizer, supper fatty she just chomped on it and 2 sugary drinks she's a big girl I was like ... what???? I was very happy with my tequila, I went home and had a small bowl of soup for dinner. Sometimes I wonder if you were always skinny as a child does that carry over into adulthood??? |

I wouldn't call myself thin but others do! So I guess if I have any tricks it would be:
I enjoy lifting weights and do so for mental health, about 3 times a week. If I dont get out that energy I will often snack as a weird outlet for the energy I have a plethora of healthy recipes that are really easy. Taco salad with beef, salsa, avocado, green onion, red onion, Greek yogurt instead of sour cream. Eggplant "lasagna" with tomato sauce, lean parmesan cheese and a small amount of ricotta. Spaghetti with zucchini "noodles" instead of pasta. For me, what works is kind of a low carb thing, though it never feels that way and I do like deserts. I never like feeling deprived, and I like to be able to eat a lot, until I'm full, so salads and modifications are my best friends. Hope that helps, OP. |
Well this is awkward. |
Maybe it would be better for OP to hear that, so she doesn't feel bad about how hard it is for her or doesn't feel like she needs to try so hard and can just be happy how she is. OP - I have always been thin my entire life. I was the girl in high school who was too skinny. it's just genetic. i'm now in my 40s and no- i can't eat whatever I want - but I don't think about what I eat much other than to try to eat enough veggies/fruits bc i really love carbs and sweets, which is not a healthy diet even if you are thin. I work out 1 to 3 times a week, but that's relatively new for me (past 5 years). I think I just have a "set" weight b/c I've been within 3 lbs above or below my typical weight since I was 17 (except for when I was pregnant.) so I have no helpful advice other than don't sweat it - just eat healthy-ish, work out a bit, and enjoy your life. |
This is how I eat and work out, too and I'm not thin. |
| OP, I think you're asking the wrong question. Why don't you tell us a little more about yourself, what you typically eat and drink in a day, and we'll try to give some help. |
