Madison HS or the IB program at Marshall HS?

The marshall high school basher is attempting to argue another failed point about madison's neighborhood proximity. I guess you have to make up more points unrelated to education to distract from a losing argument.

I know. Think about what that argument says about TJ - must be complete crap since there is no town associated with it

TJ is a magnet school, #1 school in the state. Marshall isn't even in the top 15.

Which it obviously can achieve without belonging to a contiguous and self-incorporated town with its own mayor. Your argument is idiotic. Look at Langley - are you going to say that the kids living at the border with Sterling are anywhere in the same neighborhood as the kids in north McLean? Yet Langley manages to outdo Madison based on any measurement you will care to trot out next.

Just whipe the anti-Marshall foam off your mouth and go to Madison - no one is trying to take it way from you, or force an IB program there. Putting other schools down is a sign of insecurity - wonder why, if Madison is so, so superior.

You seem to be arguing that because TJ and Langley have different strengths, that makes Marshall, which lacks the advantages of either school, look better. That's not a very good argument.

Sorry if the prospect that someone might decide not to pupil out of Madison to send their kids to Marshall, even though Madison is (gasp) outside the Beltway, bothers you.

Actually with this logic TJ is the worst because it is a bunch of random neighborhoods thrown together

Really, as someone with kids at Marshall, what exactly is is the Marshall basher's major malfunction?

Heard there were gangs of white kids at Madison! That kinda scares me.

FCPS could be paying for more teachers and classrooms instead of IB coordinators at schools where few students bother to get IB diplomas.

You don't get it, do you? Getting the IB diploma is a big deal. It is not an accident that a lot of colleges, including some of the highly touted on this site, award sophomore standing to students who have competed the IB diploma. Do you think the majority of any high school should be able to do that? Of course not. This is like saying let's eliminate the AP program because the majority of students don't take 8 AP classes. The IB program doesn't limit those who can take IB classes, so even if kids cannot manage the full diploma, they can take advantage of it. Of course, that is if learning is the objective, and not something else.

IB proponents claims it's this holistic and integrated approach to education until it's pointed out how few students actually pursue an IB diploma, at which point they claim it can be a la carte just like AP. It's a waste of money that primarily benefits overpaid IB coordinators rather than students. If there were one or two IB schools in the county, that would be more than enough to meet the demand for this program.

You're clueless.

Marshall Basher/Madison Booster,

Are you from the Midwest? No one around here gives a crap about community support for their high school. This isn't the Midwest or deep south where the whole town turns up for football games, everyone drools over the homecoming queen, and everybody knows uncle Jack on the firetruck in the parades. Believe it or not, Vienna isn't Mayberry. Whether or not your tiny, unsightly main street businesses donate money or simply happy thoughts to Madison does not have any bearing on whether or not your school is or isn't any better than any other school. Step out from under your bridge and take a second to realize that maybe what you feel is important, isn't what everybody else feels is important.

same thing as bullies on the grade school playground. they can't feel good about themselves unless they're putting someone else down.

Are you from Jupiter? Who wouldn't prefer to be at a school that has lots of community support than one that gets national attention because a teacher tells an AA child to read a poem "blacker"?
