TJ mom was a good speaker saying hundreds band/music/choir Students affected if the Hershey Park music festival cancelled b/c of June 6th and its the LAST possible date for the festival. Students have been working all year and everything is already paid for and asked if they can they still go voluntarily.
Oh no!!!! This is true! They have anticipated this end-of-year music competition with other middle schools from all over the state for the entire year, and have worked so hard to raise a ton of money for this trip, so that they and every kid in the department can go!

Countless hours have gone into the prep by the music teachers, and parents, too, have taken off work, etc.! They would all be heartbroken, and hundreds of students, it’s usually 6-7 charter buses, all paid for! I just can’t believe this is happening.

And imagine how the Shriver parents are feeling with graduation being cancelled.

I actually don't think they expected people to speak out about this.

Yes, only white parents are angry/impacted by this

I can almost guarantee that most if not all parents who emailed the board were N Arlington angry (white) parents. Don’t hate the messenger. I still think you’re going to get the vote you desire.

Not looking good... keeps quoting "policy".

Now saying even with June 6th off, they still meet the state requirements for instructional time.

Turner asking what efforts APS did to understand operational impacts: field days, graduations, competitions, school lunches, etc.

Shriver moving grad to June 5th. "No issues there" Comstock says.

Graduation has been moved, what if people were coming from out of town?

Oops sorry, Stockton.

Things will be moved or rescheduled when possible but if not???? It's inequitable

Kim Graves saying they will look at working with schools that have certain events (eg Busch Gardens) to see if they can still happen but typically everything would be cancelled.

(keep in mind baseball for example does tournaments on spring break).

Kadera "if we do not make this calendar change, we will be out of compliance with APS policy"
Anonymous
It sounds like they can waive their own policy with a public vote. This seems like a good time to do that!
