CEASEFIRE Announced

Many of the people released are people held under administrative detention. So many were not even tried, let alone convicted of anything.

The youngest is 15 years old. Just a kid. 69 of the 90 are women.

I don't know who they all are, but the Times of Israel link mentions that one of the women was arrested as part of "a crackdown on nonviolent political opposition". Two other women mentioned are the sister or wife of Hamas/PFLP members, but do not list what the two women themselves were in prison for.

Why do you think 3 for 90 is fair?

I am baffled as to how and why Netanyahu was not able to budge for a short while but needed to use this opportunity to kill

You’re baffled? Really? One side did not adhere to the agreement and you expect the other side to? Nothing baffling about it, could not be clearer. This is a classic example of people holding Israel to a higher standard. So in your baffled mind, it is okay for hamas not to adhere to the ceasefire, yet Israel should? Check your reflexive anti-semitism.

There is reporting that the agreement was for Israel to suspend drone activity prior to the ceasefire in order for Hamas to coordinate and communicate with themselves to get the list of the three captives. Israel did not suspend the drone activity and hence the delay.

Since there are attacks everyday, the suspension was needed to ensure that the names given were still alive.

Israel did not adhere to their agreement.

Al Jazeera is Qatari propaganda, the same say media is controlled in countries by the government. Not to be trusted.

Nonsense. Al Jazeera plays an extremely important role in media. One of the rare sources from another perspective.

Nonsense, Al Jazeera plays many different fiddles. It does what Amir of Qatar wants. In the Middle East it hates the Western "perversions." In the West it is all accepting of everything. You know nothing.

Western media sources are aggressively biased towards Israel.

Considering the ICC has named Netanyahu a war criminal, and it’s clear the United States is bending over backwards to accommodate Israel, why should the average reader trust what western media has to say?

Forgot to add the UN and amnesty international have named this conflict a genocide. We should completely trust them lol.

Who says they’re all militants?

Do you think 3 for 90 is appropriate? Why?

That’s what happens in an apartheid, illegitimate arrests of the occupied or oppressed class.

Do you think killing 40k Palestinians is appropriate?

40k was the number over a year ago, I would guess that it’s much closer to 200k now, with 1 million displaced and at least 500k injured. Seems like a genocide and ethnic cleansing to me, the ICC and the UN.

Do you think it is fair to jail 10,000 people without rights, trials, or visits from the Red Cross?

Do you think it’s fair to kidnap civilians from a music festival and deprive them of rights, trials or visits from the Red Cross? I’d appreciate it if you answered the question. Why is 3 for 90 a fair swap?

It’s not a real ceasefire.

It’s basically a terror group’s version of dry January.

Seriously though, it’s the plan that Biden was working towards that was admittedly accelerated because Trump is unstable. I’m curious to know what secret concessions Trump offered to secure a win (whether real or imagined) as he ascends his throne.

Let’s see what Trump’s approach will be with Iran, China, and Ukraine. It matters.

I hope they begin the hostage release with the mothers who are supposed to meet the hostages made to crawl over the bodies of the slaughtered Palestinian children.

No to the first. I have always been against the targeting of civilians. Palestinian civilians, Israeli civilians, any civilians.

I did not say it was a fair swap. No, I do not think 3 for 90 is fair.

I don't think arresting 10,000 Palestinian prisoners is fair.

I don't think killing 50,000 Palestinians is fair.

Today's exchange is simply to establish some trust. Hamas is expected to release 3 young women hostages. And Israel is expected to release 90 very low level detainees. Most haven't even gone to trial yet. Once trust is established, Hamas is expected to release 30 more hostages, both the living and the dead. Israel is expected to release hundreds of Hamas terrorists, including those responsible for blowing up buses and restaurants and blindly killing innocent people. It's a painful trade, particularly since during the last trade for a hostage, Israel released Sinwar, who ultimately planned all the atrocities that occurred on 10/7.

But this agreement is on a trip wire. I think Israel agreed to it because they don't expect Hamas to abide by the terms of the deal. They will use this window to get as many hostages back as possible. And they better be alive. But I think Israel has agreed to release Palestinian murderers and terrorists because they think there is a strong likelihood they can kill them later once Hamas fails to abide by the terms of the deal. One way or another, this war doesn't end until Hamas is gone.

What’s most horrifying about that thought is the disturbing arousal it will summons in the radical, deranged Zionists reading it here on DCUM.

This is a rational and reasonable set of assumptions.

Then we agree. Not sure why Israel agreed.
