2025 High School Boys DMV Lacrosse

Landon looked strong against McDonogh in the 1st half. When the starters were in it was Landon up 8-1. McDonogh did not play their starting goalie. The backups went in favor of McDonogh. They looked deeper.

He is there in his bright red SJC jacket scouting summer and fall tournaments, he follows up with the families of promising kids who attend his lacrosse camp in the summer, he himself takes prospective families on their tours of SJC. It’s not just coaching skill anymore so say what you will about Speaks but he understands the assignment.

sounds like the guy has zero life

if he’s recruiting so hard, why does he only have 8 freshman playing lacrosse this year? Has he decided to just recruit upperclassman transfers? That’s mostly what episcopal does and top lax boarding schools.

the cat is out of the bag with SJC and Speaks. He over-recruits and has a reputation for recruiting right over kids and making false promises to players / parents. In his defense, he is running SJC and its recruiting efforts borderline like a D3 program.

Catholic families are more inclined to still look at GZ, GP and even GC now.

I agree with this. Speaks over-played the 21 and 22 results and made too many promises to too many families. It's been mentioned before but there will be a number of 27's and then 28's who won't see the field until senior season. Then there's the problem of college. I don't see but a handful of players over the last 4 years who have gone on to a college where they couldn't get into on their own. That's fine, but that's not the promise he makes when he talks to families. He specifically says he can get your son into a school the same as GP or Gonzaga.

Exactly. And I know that Yorktown, McLean, Langley, and the other good publics are hoping that the 2027s and 2028s riding the bench will wise up and go back to their local school. It’s a long way to drive for a mediocre school where you have to pay and don’t get to play.

This comment is repeated every year right about this time when a large number of upperclassmen (who’ve been playing club lax get for years) get cut when they don’t make varsity. Most often at Gonzaga. Makes good sense. Go to a good school where you can still be an athlete and play a sport you love. Havent seen it happen near enough as it should

LMAO - more proof that the IAC has been practicing way before the official start time.

Who do you guys think are gonna win the liberty distrct? Langley, Yorktown, McLean, or Herndon. Many of those teams have talented players returning.

Are the rosters on IL or max preps?

I’ll add some further insight.

Landon was playing without 3 - 4 starters against McDonogh (Penn defender, W&L defender, Navy M/A). Not to mention 6 hockey players haven’t event began practicing with the team yet (they won the MD private school state championship the night before)

McDonogh was uncharacteristic very sloppy between the lines, they struggled to clear the ball. Their backup goalie also didn’t have his best performance. Millón is the real deal though, he will carry them this spring.

Overall, Bears have more depth than I was anticipating this year. They also controlled the face-off X.

Take what it was, it was just a scrimmage.

I’m not sure, might be on both. Langley this year might have the potential. Even though they have lost tons of seniors last year based on their offense. Their defense is the same as last year and looks really strong. Yorktown has graduated most of its started last class and so did McLean. It will be a very good one this year

These teams played top 20 players for 3 quarters?

No they didn't, but PVI looked very strong and took it to Bullis, who looked overmatched at times. When all starters were playing it was tied. I think PVI may very well win the WCAC, looking this good so early. Very good coaching and hugely talented. It will come down to them and STJ.

PVI looked lost and running for cover. PVI didn't take anything to Bullis. It was close but not because PVI was dominating Bullis. Bullis played awful and after 3 quarters it was 11-6, after 4 it was 13-7. It was a physical game and PVI ran out of steam. PVI coaching is suspect but the talent is there if they play together. I think it comes down to the same 4 in the WCAC GC, GZ, SJC and PVI.
When has that ever been the top 4?

Why did you provide a link that shows overall records? That's not conference play.
PVI finished 5th, and didn't beat any of the top 4. And then Dematha beat them again in the 4-5 game.

So when has that ever been the top 4 in the last 5-6 years?

If all four teams stay healthy and play to their potential based on what the returning players showed last year, the order would be Langley, McLean, Yorktown, Herndon. W&L would be in the running to finish fourth and maybe third. But what makes public school lacrosse interesting is that all of these teams rely on a small number of strong players to carry them, so if just a couple of players over-perform or under-preform, of if teams pick up some difference-makers in the form of freshman or private school transfers, the order could change easily.

What's your issue, Dematha not getting enough love here? They're a great team and fine bunch of boys. Happy now?

Based on early scrimmage results, Bullis has looked very impressive.
