How many teachers are leaving your school next year?

We had a teacher accept an offer for an upcoming vacancy a month or so ago then hand in their resignation this week. Things are going great!

A lot of people wait to resign until the last minute to avoid retaliation. My admin has been nasty to the people who are leaving.

I've seen this happen more than once....just another reason teachers are done.

I’ve also seen teachers that are leaving the profession leave over the summer so that they don’t have to explain themselves to coworkers or admin.

I know several teachers who have gotten new jobs and then don't say anything until the very last .invite on purpose because they've been treated so badly they want a little revenge. As a young teacher, I thought this was horrible. As a veteran teacher, I totally get it.

OP here - this person worked at another school, accepted a job here, then resigned from FCPS altogether.

Don’t think we’ll know until the fall. People can leave over the summer.

I don't teach there but inside source told me 15-20.

Someone on the staff Facebook said 17 a while back. So not only are they losing staff, any staff member looking for a new position and searches the Facebook page is going to know about it. Teachers ask around when looking for new schools and principals do not want to have a bad reputation. Those positions will be hard to fill.

Heard there are 40 at one HS. "...but that's normal."

That may be the “new normal” for the past five or so years, but definitely not the norm 15 years ago.

To me this metric is meaningless without additional data. For example, I’d like to know:

the delta between outgoing and incoming (not known until late summer);

the primary reason for leaving (eg, administrative issues, unsuitable match, retirement, career change, etc)

the seniority of the teachers;

and so on.

When you leave a job, is there ever any difference between the reason you give officially and the real reason that was the tipping point?
