Only thing I am aware of is McLean/West Potomac tonight.

How did it go?

McLean lost 2 of their 3 top scorers from last season. They will need someone to step up if they want to be a top contender this spring. Not sure who it will be at this point based on their first 2 scrimmages.

Can someone drop a top 10 and give a run down of why for each team! Just wanna get filled in before season

Can we at least all agree that Indy is a top three team?

Ha. I only do Class 6 rankings, but after seeing Indy get smoked by Langley 11-3 they wouldn’t be top 10 in Class 6

Sir, you make 6A season twice as fun. Can’t wait to read your first 2024 season analysis.

There’s some top matchups this week, in week 1. Everyone will have their eyes on the Madlax Game of the week: Madison vs Riverside.

That is obviously a top 6a vs top 5a match up…

I went ahead and looked to see what matchups this week featured two (potential) top 10, 6a teams playing each other….three match ups stood out:

3/13: Woodson Vs Oakton

3/15: Madison Vs West Potomac

3/15: Robinson vs Yorktown

Going to be great week of lacrosse!

Score predictions!?

2024 Predictions (Final 4)

4A:
Dominion - Coach L is one of the areas best. He will have the Titans primed to return to the promise land.
Kettle Run - With a great season in 2023, Lets see if Kettle Run can continue to rise.
Broad Run - They have talent in the right spots. A lack of seriousness in the program could hurt them. Depth also in question.
Loudoun Valley - Dominion and Valley have a very interesting rivalry. Can Valley's Faceoff Man keep them in games. Can they Vikings develop offensive threats in the midfield. Only time will tell.

5A:
Riverside - Just when people think they are "down", they go and win state titles. Whatever is in the water there, I want some. They are at a different level until proven otherwise.
Independence - A ridiculous amount of talent, maybe the best in the state, but can a new coach take this Indy team to the next level. Off-Season leagues show that the tigers may have what it takes to knock off the Rams.
Briar Woods - Not so fast Indy Lovers... Briar still seems to have Indy's number. They also have an absolute beast in the midfield. With a new coach as well, the battle for 2nd in 5A might be one to remember.
Mountain View - Heading down to Stafford with our 4th team... The Hokies of the north have something cooking. 15-1 last year, with a tough loss to Briar at the end of the season. Can they get themselves to over that Loudoun hump?

6A:
Madison - Much like in the 5A landscape, Warhawks are top dogs until beat. They have one of the best poles (IMO) in NOVA history. Coach Soloman is also probably the best coach in all of Virginia. Heavy prediction that Madison dismantles Riverside in the opener on there way to yet another state champy.
Langley - Sleeeeper team here in the 2 spot. They may have the most offensive talent they have had since Brewer. Can Coach Parrot win the big game? He will need to get the Saxons back on the map. Pressure on Georgetown Pike.
Robinson - Losing two close games in 2023 to the boys from Vienna has the Rams motivated for 2024. Need to summon the spirits of Rams past to remember that they are the program to beat.
Battlefield - Something about the Purple that brings fear to those who face them. They always play great defense, have a fantastic ball stopper between the pipes, and seem to always be there at the end.

Remember these are all opinion, not fact. They are also for fun. Love to hear your thoughts! Post away....

Man, I really don't think Madison got it this year. They are very cocky and need to not overlook their opponents. There is some strong competition in the air!

Preseason -2024 VA Boys Class 6 Rankings

1. Madison

Analysis: Madison has won back-to-back state championships and three of the last four. They bring back some important pieces, including two committed attackmen and the 2023 Class 6 player of the year LSM. Loss of their D1 FOGO will challenge them but Madison’s coaches always seem to find a way, and they have a decent chance to make it three in a row and four of the last five. Crazy out of district schedule with Riverside, Atlee, Broadneck, Severna Park, Yorktown, and Robinson on tap. They have reached dynasty level now under Coach Solomon and are the team to beat again this year. They tend to start slow and improve over the course of the season, so they may lose a few games along the way but will be ready come the playoffs.

This Week: 3/13 v. Riverside, 3/15 @ West Potomac

2. Robinson

Analysis: Robinson once again lost some key players to graduation but they return some studs all over the field, including a very good attackman, a Rutgers committed defender, and a solid sophomore FOGO that gets them more than their fair share of possessions. They play Madison, Yorktown, Langley, and McLean in the regular season so we will get a good look at the Rams against the rest of the top teams before the tournament. Always one of the best coached teams in the area, the Rams should coast to the Region C championship. VHSL tournament realignment could see Madison and Robinson facing off on the state championship this year.

This Week: 3/15 @ Yorktown

3. Yorktown

Analysis: Yorktown graduated a ton of talent including much of their midfield and two high-scoring attack. They return one of the best attackman in Virginia, a strong FOGO, some solid defenseman and a top goalie. Scoring seemed to be down a bit in the preseason as the new starters looked get comfortable in their roles. No time to kill as they will get tested early with games against Robinson and Madison in week 2. Langley and McLean have closed the gap and will be looking to make a run at the district title, but the Liberty belt still runs through Arlington for now.

This Week: 3/13 @ Centreville, 3/15 v. Robinson

4. Langley

Analysis: Most of the team returns, including one of the top attackman in the area, several strong midfielders, and a pair of good young FOGOs. The Saxons looked strong in the preseason putting up a lot of goals and defeating two private schools with ease in scrimmages. Tough schedule ahead with out of conference games against Robinson, Cosby, Sidwell Friends, Broadneck, and South River should have them ready for the playoffs. Langley is one of the most complete and talented teams in Class 6 but they need to prove it on the field if they hope to return to their former glory days.

This Week: 3/15 @ Centreville

5. Battlefield

Analysis: Once again, Battlefield should be a lock for the state tournament and likely the #1 seed from Region B. They return one of the best goalies in the state and some solid position players, including an all-state midfielder and some tough poles. Battlefield lacks depth on offense but their defense should keep them in every game. Is the easier schedule this year with no Robinson, Madison or private schools on tap a sign that Battlefield is more vulnerable than in past seasons? Briar Woods this week could be an early test.

This Week: 3/12 v. Briar Woods; 3/15 v. Independence

6. McLean

Analysis: The Highlanders return many key pieces including a top notch goalie, two good poles, and stud midfielder. They will need to find some replacements on attack as all three regular starters graduated, including two of their top scorers. McLean had a somewhat quiet preseason and did not push themselves as hard as some of the other top teams, but they better get ready quickly because they face Robinson on 3/20. McLean could be a contender for the Liberty district if they can dethrone Yorktown while keeping Langley at bay.

This Week: 3/13 v. Chantilly

7. Cosby

Analysis: Cosby beat Battlefield last year and showed some grit facing Madison the next day in the finals after some scheduling issues. State runner up will have a tougher path this year with the VHSL tournament realignment, but a brutal schedule this season with away games at Atlee, Langley, Madison, and Robinson should have Cosby battle tested for the playoffs. Cosby normally doesn’t get a rank here but with so many matchups against NOVA teams this season we will get to see what they are made of before the tournament.

This Week: 3/13 @ James River

8. Freedom South Riding

Analysis: Freedom returns some key pieces including a first-team all-region defenseman and some decent attack and midfielders. Maybe not enough depth to topple Battlefield but should have enough talent to challenge Patriot for at least the second spot in Region B. Freedom took down Patriot three times last season in extremely close games and gets the slight edge to start the season.

This Week: 3/14 @ Stone Bridge

9. Patriot

Analysis: Patriot returns two first team all-region poles and a trio of D3 commits at the midfield and attack that should keep them competitive in the Cedar Run district. Tough out of conference schedule with Briar Woods, Yorktown, and Madison games looming. Look for Patriot and Freedom to continue their rivalry and fight for one of the Region B playoff spots.

This Week: 3/14 vs. Faquier, 3/15 @ Briar Woods

10. Lake Braddock

Analysis: Picking the bottom of the Top-10 feels like throwing darts blindfolded at one of the many teams in Region C not named Robinson. There are a number of teams that will probably end up around .500 or slightly better but will not be a significant threat come tournament time. Lake Braddock is a physical team and had a decent pre-season showing against Madison, so they get the vote for the last spot, but we expect this spot to turn over often as the “Also Considered” teams battle to crack the Top 10.

This Week: 3/15 vs. Chantilly

Also Considered: Hayfield, South County, Westfield, Woodson, West Springfield, West Potomac

Do you have Madison winning on Wednesday?

I think Madison wins at home by 5-6. Riverside seems to still be a pretty young team. Also, not sure they will be able to stop or slow down the Rubley's. Also, Ollie Hau is going to cause the Riverside players headaches.
