Dem voter here- I think she’s going to start moving center on abortion. She’s treading very carefully in the primary. If she was to win the nomination ( which is doubtful), I suspect she’d move toward Roe- Just with flowery baby language added. It’s where the country is and she’s a politician. |
She literally said in the first GOP debate that she would sign a national abortion law. I am not sure why you think she will moderate that. |
Because she’s a politician who needs to get out of a primary. Not that it matters. She’s not getting the nomination, so you’ll never see this scenario play out with her. BUT YOU WILL WITH TRUMP. Once he secures the nomination, you’ll see him run far far far away from Roe. Claiming credit in private with donors, and denying it in public. And his voters won’t mind a bit. |
If the GOP keeps the House, which is a possibility and the GOP takes the senate, which is likely and Haley wins the White House, then the congress will pass a national abortion ban and she will sign it. This isn't hard. The GOP is telling you their agenda. Haley isn't going to soften on it. |
| Nikki Haley was Gov of South Carolina. In South Carolina's Articles of Secession, the VERY FIRST reason they give on why they're going to war is, "[A]n increasing hostility on the part of the non-slaveholding States to the institution of slavery..." |
| She doesn’t know the cause of the civil war?! She’s a moron. |
She does, of course. She doesn't want to upset the MAGA base. And in doing so, she just turned off any chance she had at the general election. Which means Trump will now pick her as the VP running mate...which will be an anchor to her public career for the rest of her life. ETTD |

Of course the Southern whites in power tried to secede from the U.S. because of slavery.
But also, the "state's rights" argument was always revisionist bullshit. Because, right up next to their desire to continue owning and living off the labor of other human beings; the southerners were also very upfront about trying to leave the U.S. because the northern states were not sufficiently compliant with federal law. They were huge hypocrites talking about "state's rights" (let alone individual freedoms) after complaining that the North wasn't obeying the federal "Fugitive Slave Act." As Samuel Johnson put it, "how is it that we hear the loudest yelps for liberty among the drivers of negroes?" |
| My favorite part was when she asked the voter what he thought caused the civil war, and he replied that he wasn't running for president. |
| All Republicans are cowards. They know that their party is dependent on racists, so much so that they won’t dare to admit that the Confederacy was about slavery even though the Confederates themselves said so. |
I know Donald Trump doesn’t take questions from the general public or non-RW media any more, but if he did, someone could *really* trip him up by asking about the Civil War. What caused it? Was it about slavery? Would you have supported the Union or the Confederacy? As Nikki Haley clearly understands, there is no easy way out for Republicans on this. |
Ehhh, you're honestly giving Trump way too much credit. There's no way he knows what the Civil War is. He'd very likely start talking about WWII if faced with that question. |
What's so crazy is she's the one who removed the Confederate flag from the SC statehouse! https://time.com/6255503/nikki-haley-2024-confederate-flag/ Now she's all, slavery who? |
I mean all she had to say was that there was a disagreement over slavery (i.e., she just doesn't take sides and therefore pleases MAGA). All but the most stupid (e.g., Trump) are aware of slavery so her answer makes no sense. |
