Not saying I would vote for Haley but I do realize Biden would have no chance against Haley if somehow Trump were to be forced out of the race and Haley received the nomination. If Trump were forced out of the race before Biden was nominated, I do think Biden would back out of the race and/or turn down the nomination so the Dems could nominate someone with much better odds of beating the non-Trump GOP nominee. Biden may be old and stubborn but I don't think he is selfish to the degree that he would let his ego and pride get in the way of giving his party a chance in the 2024 election. All this being said; something happening to force Trump out of the race is very unlikely and Biden vs Trump in the general election is easily the most likely of match-ups.

Keep dreaming about Haley. If Trump doesn’t win the GOP nomination he will torch whoever does. His hordes are loyal only to him, not the party.

I don’t think so. I think they love him and some would literally die for him, the poor misplaced clucks, but they’re Republicans. They will vote for a half empty bottle of Diet Coke if it is (R).

Nikki Haley seems like a good middle of the road choice and she has a background in government.
Any thoughts? MAGA crazies need not reply.

none. no one will vote for an Indian.

You are delusional. Good grief.
NP

I’m curious where the GOP as a collective group has demonstrated to you that they are open minded and tolerant voters.

Just because many of you think that repeating it every day makes it true, 60+ million Republican voters are not racist, closed-minded and intolerant.

Good morning, chum! Last night your lord and savior Donald Trump actually said out loud that immigrants have poisoned the blood of our country. https://www.politico.com/news/2023/12/16/trump-immigration-attack-00132156 Not illegal immigrants, all immigrants. Immigrants have poisoned our country. And you think Nikki Haley has any chance whatsoever? You think your party is open minded and tolerant? He’s going to win your party’s nomination precisely because your party is bigoted beyond belief.

DP. How curious that Politico selectively edited what he said, which was this:

illegal immigration is poisoning the blood of our nation. They’re coming from prisons, from mental institutions — from all over the world.”
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/trump-says-immigrants-are-poisoning-blood-country-biden-campaign-liken-rcna130141

Leaving aside the delusion that all illegal immigrants are all criminals or mentally ill, can you explain the difference between the genetics of an illegal immigrant from Mexico versus a legal immigrant from Mexico? How is one Mexican person poisoning American blood but the other is not?

If you are *literally* taking that expression to mean genetics, then I don't know what to tell you. The point is: the massive ILLEGAL immigrant crisis Biden has allowed needs to stop. In no way should the US be expected to take in millions of economic migrants.

Ah yes, the whole Trump doesn't mean what he says/you can't take him seriously canard.

I'm very interested to hear what the figurative meaning of "poisoning our blood" is. Up until 56 years ago it was a crime in some states to marry a person of another race so it's not like there's no history of bias against intermarriage of ethnic groups.

How late could he back out?

Yep. Trump would claim that the primaries were rigged by the RNC. He would focus all of his rage at the RNC—and none at Biden—and Haley would pull about 35% of the popular vote, losing all 50 states.

Hopefully she really does over-perform. Trump is already melting down since his veneer of "leading by 40 points" is gone. I think there is a big contingent of rational voter within the GOP that is looking for an alternative to the immoral criminal.

She is the only candidate I’d feel good voting for. I will not vote for Trump. I’d hold my nose and vote for Biden if the choice was Trump or DeSantis. None of the other elephants and neither RFK, Jr. or Manchin if he even runs have a chance. It is one of these three. Haley is my first choice, then Biden.

A fair, measured post. At least you're concerned about maintaining some level of democracy in the U.S.

Trump is awful.

Her willingness to make abortion illegal is a non-starter for me.

It's the majority of the GOP right now.

At this point, she will not beat Trump and even if she won every primary, Trump would run as a write in candidate in the election and his base will come out in droves to vote for him

DW and I typically vote blue, but we are pondering voting for Haley in the R primary as a vote against Trump.

Haley hasn’t had the Presidential level of scrutiny yet.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/12/22/nikki-haley-wealth/

In an 11-month period ending January 2023, she earned about $2.5 million from paid speeches alone, delivered to banks, other businesses and advocacy groups, according to her disclosure. That’s more than she earned in combined salary during the eight years she spent as governor and then a presidential Cabinet member.

The specific sources of Haley’s wealth highlight her ties to traditional Republican interests, namely big business and muscular foreign policy.

A Haley spokesperson said the campaign does not have transcripts of Haley’s paid speeches because most took the form of question-and-answer sessions. Haley also has not released her recent tax returns. The spokesperson said she intends to but did not respond to questions about when.

In 2016, Haley condemned Trump for withholding such documents. “Donald Trump, show us your tax returns!” she said at the time. And she took a swipe at Hillary Clinton, the Democratic nominee for president, who had come under criticism for refusing to reveal the contents of her paid speeches.
