Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
BS. It’s an issue aggressively being fueled by the Rs. It’s an admitted campaign strategy to whip up the base. And PP also mentioned abortion and whitewashing history. Funny how you missed those. |
It’s clear if you look at recent discussions that it’s exactly the opposite and has been for some period of time. The constant hysteria when it comes to trans issues by the D activists is tiring, but given what a poor job the current school board has done the efforts to deflect come as no surprise. |
The school board can do these things? |
It's bizarre how some Ds absolve the Democrats on the FCPS School Board of responsibility for failing to do necessary things that are clearly within their authority, while ascribing powers to R candidates for School Board that they would never possess. |
| Maybe the average R voter wants to see reform, but the political party has directly said their goal is vouchers to private schools so I would say “gut”. |
Constant hysteria = wanting those kids (some of whom I know) to be treated with respect and dignity. And not be made out to be weird or harmful. So, yeah, not "activist" things. But acting like a decent effing human being thing. And I'd rather be on that side of the argument than be a bigot. |
This word salad is a bunch of BS. And lbh, authority and norms are not things the current GOP party and supporters adheres to in any way. The last few years are replete with examples of that. So just b/c it isn't in their "authority" doesn't mean the GOP candidates wouldn't try. And you know it. |
Right now - I haven't seen the Rs do anything worse than literally bar my kids from in person school for one full year. |
I think there was a reason... let me think hard,,, oh yeah, a global pandemic causing over 50% of the schools in the US to close for the same time period. |
I seem to remember catholic schools with similar sized classes opening long before FCPS. I also recall most of the state opening long before FCPS. What I can't remember is republicans doing anything as remotely harmful to my children's education as remote learning |
Hey, it's what Kimberley Adams, Laura Jane Cohen, and Karl Frisch wanted. A minority party just needed to butt out and let the learning stop. |
Herrity is very, very effective on a constituent and community level. We have come to him with local non partisan issues and they are usually fixed wihin a week. |
+1. I expect Democrats to suggest their hands were tied and they had no choice, but in fact they made a deliberate choice. They just chose to keep schools closed because that's what the organizations closest to them asked them to do. Now if the response of the Republican candidates is to suggest public schools are beyond repair and we need to "fund students, not schools," I have a problem. But otherwise these candidates start out on a better footing that the Democrats who suggest the current School Board has done even a halfway decent job and that all we need is more of the same. |
| Why are we ignoring that a candidate was talking to America First Christian Nationalists? That is not normal. https://www.wusa9.com/article/news/local/harry-jackson-republican-running-for-fairfax-school-board-spends-hours-conversing-with-far-right-groypers/65-1b8fb3b1-2d96-4300-afd8-b83fdcec79a0 |
It is okay- you are safe now. Your kids have been in school for 2 years in person. Take deep breaths. Let go of the anger, it will only hurt you if you decide to dwell on it.Let go of your past trauma you continue to be triggered from. You can’t even read a post without getting upset. |
