How many times are we going to hear this? It doesn’t matter how low or how high Georgetown’s acceptance rate is, it has always been an Ivy League back up. Even before the common application even existed. You’re over stating this.

Georgetown has crumbling buildings and mold to offer students. I don't get why anyone would pay private school tuition to go there.

It is impressive to me that Georgetown continues to attract such impressive students and rank as highly as they do with their financial limitations. If they can continue to invest well and generate high-end donations, they have a lot of upside.

Gtown is tied with Emory this year but has an endowment smaller than many of the elite liberal arts colleges (Williams, Amherst, Swarthmore, Pomona, Wellesley, and Bowdoin).

Peers like Emory, WashU, Vandy, Rice, USC, Notre Dame, and NYU all have endowments of over $5.5 billion compared under $2.6 billion for GTown. $$ is a real issue for Georgetown.

Idk if Georgetown is an academic peer of Rice and Vandy. Their admission statistics must be very different.

Georgetown does not use the common application, so the applicant pool is self selecting. As such, many hypothesize that their actual rate of admission would be much lower if they did.

Those of you who live in high-end areas must see kids wearing ND stuff! Having moved to the MD suburbs after being in Palo Alto and Mountain View, CA for most of the last decade, I've seen a lot of ND gear on both coasts.

I was shocked to see an ND badge on the car of our newest neighbor in CCDC because we're outside the orbit (tentacles?) of Blessed Sacrament. I worry we're getting more Repube in 20015, I've definitely noticed an uptick as the area has grown so much more expensive compared to its ACLU / journalist / Jewish / non-profit days.

Well do a bit of searching around DCUM. There are many Catholic bashers amongst us. I mean I am not so sure if it is pure hate or just jealousy that Catholics have so many great schools to choose from, whereas other religions don't really have that many strong options for schools that are based on their faith. My son had many Catholic colleges on his list, mainly because he had such a good experience in a Catholic HS after 9 years of public education.

As for me - I would like to think I don't care about the rankings, but I clearly do enough that I am posting here, and am disappointed that my alma mater and my son's favorite has fallen a few spots. No, I haven't ever seen anyone wearing ND stuff. And football doesn't impress me.

If you went to a Catholic HS (like me) they shove ND down your throat from a very young age. They make it your dream, like it or now. For goodness sake, our fight song was the ND fight song with a few of the words changed. Our nuns were The Sisters of Notre Dame.

Because the way USNews has tweaked its rankings it favors larger universities with big research budgets and in the National University category. Also the way they figure reputation there also tends to favor larger universities that have more graduates. That's in part why these large public universities have been moving up in their rankings (in addition to a trend for strong students to stay in-state to save costs).

W&M is a lot more like a liberal arts college but because it has a couple of doctoral programs it gets put in the National University category rather than National Liberal Arts colleges. But it's also a public mid-size school so doesn't compare well with the private smaller schools. So it's actually very impressive that it is ranked as high as it is as an institution with only 6.5k undergrads and a handful of grad programs given the way the numbers are configured and it's 'between categories' quality.

They should reconsider this, using the common app would help the school. My child would have applied but for the lack of common app option. She has high test scores in both her sittings so Ed off by that component.

Kids think the social scene there is weird/lame, not saying it’s true, just the perception. Do It has affected the size of the applicant pool negatively
