It is silly, meduza.

It's also not the sort of info that tends to be psyops. Why you'd feel the need to discredit is confusing. It doesn't matter to us here or even Ukrainians. That news is only important to those in the FSB, and in that case it's something one might want to check on themself.

I care about it because I analyze what happens in Russia. These days, I obviously have to be extremely careful about where information comes from.

Why would Russia intentionally leak information that makes them look like incompetent buffoons? Especially when that info is so consistent with everything people are seeing on the ground and elsewhere?

In that case, Bellingcat, Meduza, Andrei Soldatov and Irina Borogan are reporting it.

But that does raise the question. If you're a Russia analyst then how do you not have those sources on your newsfeed? BBC and CNN don't have their access or contacts and don't speak Russian. They've also been slow on reporting.

BBC absolutely has Russia-speaking journalists. So does CNN. Their problem is that they had to pull out of Russia.

The reason I missed this particular story is because I had to take the day off today. But now I see it’s being covered by legitimate sources:

Yes, I looked up the sources you mentioned. Thanks for the tip.

And of course I follow those sources anyway — things are just moving so quickly these days that one day off is the equivalent of a week off under normal circumstances.
