I used to work at Merrill and there are a lot of senior employees with similar, awful demeanors. They tend to drive away the nice/sane employees so you end up with a lot of bad eggs

My son is anaphylactically allergic to nuts, and if someone had served me something with nuts by mistake, I would have chills down my spine. This is how people die. This is how my son ended up with a major anaphylactic reation one day when a restaurant served my husband a dish with peanuts by mistake, and he gave my son a taste of it, thinking it did not contain nuts.

So I understand his fear. Sadly his fear revealed him to be a racist bully. Taking a tone and reminding the server that certain mistakes can be deadly would have been sufficient.

Guess what? If my kid had anaphylactic reaction to peanuts you can bet I would never go to a place that mixes things up! That is on him.
His behavior was inexcusable and revealed what’s under the surface: classism, racism And xenophobia

I honestly think he was planning to throw the smoothie at them.

Even if a customer yelled at them I would not want my employees yelling back at a customer like that. Even before he went over the top none of them sounded like they were trying to make it better and de escalate it by how they replied.

Being a jerk should not lead to losing your job.

How about being a racist bigot? Should you lose your job for that? Absolutely

Plus he threw the smoothie at the teen. If he gets upset with one of his staff will he assault them with a chair?

My friends whose kids have anaphylactic peanut allergy DO NOT EAT at restaurants that use peanut oil or peanut butter and they would never ever ever risk ordering something with peanut butter clearly listed as an ingredient and then just hope it wasn’t included upon request. No way. I have one friend whose kids have never and will never even go to Chick-fil-A because they use peanut oil for the fries and chicken and it’s too risky. His kid’s reaction is due to his parental negligence. Throwing a smoothie at an employee is assault. Loser. L

Why did he go to a smoothie shop where they blend smoothies with peanut butter at all? They didn't have to "put peanut butter" in his kid's smoothie. They could have blended a smoothie with peanut butter three weeks ago and the microns of peanut butter left on the blender caused an allergic reaction if his kid has severe allergies. I bet he knows nothing about how to protect this child and knows nothing about allergy protocols. He's totally foolish bringing home a smoothie from a shop that uses peanut butter at all. No one poisoned his kid. He did it.

+2 if you have a severe allergy you don’t go to these places. Simple as that, sadly. He didn’t know that because he’s probably never been alone with his kid or responsible for their care. He thought “no peanut butter” was sufficient. Even if it had no peanut butter, the machinery would have had traces of nuts on it which is still too much. He really messed up and then tried to make it someone else’s fault.

But he did say no peanut butter, so why was peanut butter in it? Why isn't anyone talking about that? The girl who did the interview is not 100% sure if peanut butter was added or if there was cross contamination. So, obviously someone made a mistake and shouldn't the smoothie place be responsible for this? His teen could have died.

And to people who think the kids went through trauma because of this incident, you need a thicker hide then. The girls defended themselves quite well and they did not experience trauma.

What makes you say that "obviously someone made a mistake" just because the smoothie shop girl isn't prepared to swear 100 percent? As has been said a million times, an allergy parent should *never* give their child anything made in a fast food joint where they use peanut butter and nuts all the time. The mistake was on the dad, and maybe even on the 17-year-old child, who surely should know how to protect himself by now. One of my child's best friends has a peanut allergy and he was advocating for himself back when he was 4 years old.

Also, if you think the girls should toughen up and get a thicker skin if a customer is angry at their possible error, then that goes triple for the a-hole who lost his job because of his mistakes.

He said no peanut butter
He check receipt no peanut butter
His son went into shock transported to hospital
He yelled at the staff for almost killing son.
He was fired his job.
He was publicly lunched

White girls posted this to get clicks and ruin the guys life.

Meanwhile it should have been dealt with via police or perhaps lawsuit.

. Other parents with one kid with a peanut allergy go to ice cream shops with nuts to pick up food for their kids. If his kid asked for his regular order of Performance Smoothie P-Nut Power Plus minus PB with no reaction, or only a minor benadryl, or worst case single epipen in the past 17 years, his kid may ask again. Emphasized "hold Peanut Butter" may have been misconstrued by the English-challenged staff as "emphasize" peanut butter by putting in extra. If for 17 years, the most you ever needed is a single epi-pen and suddenly multiple vomiting, two epi-pens + hospitalization and near death unconsciousness occurs, you have the right to find out what was in it, if only to prevent it for home-made items. It is not obvious which energy boost and multivitamin they use even if you can get banana, soy, and whey yourself.

Kid now knows asking dad for his "regular", cost him his dad's job and got his dad arrested and humiliated.

He did not tell them his son had a life-threatening peanut allergy. "Hold the peanut butter" does not mean "even a microbe of peanut dust might kill him"

Sure, he should have considered a lawsuit, but instead he drove over to the store and unloaded a ton of racist crap, threatened to kill the girls, tried to break into the back of the store and threw a drink at them.

So I'm sure he's full of regret for the way he handled it, but actions have consequences.

Kid now knows that his dad has an explosive and violent temper, but the kid probably already knew that.
