My son is anaphylactically allergic to nuts, and if someone had served me something with nuts by mistake, I would have chills down my spine. This is how people die. This is how my son ended up with a major anaphylactic reation one day when a restaurant served my husband a dish with peanuts by mistake, and he gave my son a taste of it, thinking it did not contain nuts. So I understand his fear. Sadly his fear revealed him to be a racist bully. Taking a tone and reminding the server that certain mistakes can be deadly would have been sufficient. Guess what? If my kid had anaphylactic reaction to peanuts you can bet I would never go to a place that mixes things up! That is on him. His behavior was inexcusable and revealed what’s under the surface: classism, racism And xenophobia

Why did he go to a smoothie shop where they blend smoothies with peanut butter at all? They didn't have to "put peanut butter" in his kid's smoothie. They could have blended a smoothie with peanut butter three weeks ago and the microns of peanut butter left on the blender caused an allergic reaction if his kid has severe allergies. I bet he knows nothing about how to protect this child and knows nothing about allergy protocols. He's totally foolish bringing home a smoothie from a shop that uses peanut butter at all. No one poisoned his kid. He did it.
+2 if you have a severe allergy you don’t go to these places. Simple as that, sadly. He didn’t know that because he’s probably never been alone with his kid or responsible for their care. He thought “no peanut butter” was sufficient. Even if it had no peanut butter, the machinery would have had traces of nuts on it which is still too much. He really messed up and then tried to make it someone else’s fault.
