That is following the science.

There must be enough variation between regions and counties now to do the statistical analysis.

There is definitely data! Strong enough data to show that it doesn’t make enough of a difference.

Mask optional by Spring Break, regardless of whether numbers go back up or not.

I still remember when the DCUM trolls posted the no-masking in summer 2020.. then Fall 2020.. then Spring 21, then Summer 21, then Fall 21, and now again!!!

Just goes to show that Idiocracy is not sci fi, it's a documentary of our future!

It's a legitimate question of when masks can be optional because either the community spread is low enough /vaccines are prevalent. We are not out of the proverbial woods yet. My prediction is that MSDE we'll ditch the mask mandate in the summer of 2022 not during spring break if the numbers stay low like last summer.

I will reiterate though that making masks optional is theoretically apparent choice but in reality it's going to be a student choice especially in a secondary school where you're asking a teacher to remember which students have to wear masks and enforce that.

Making a Summer '22 decision before the school year even starts? Counting chickens before they catch is how we got here in the first place. Omicron would have to be the last variant, and we already know it's not.

Masks will need to come off because parents will demand it. And if MoCo continues to delay as the rest of the country returns to normal, we’ve already decided we will move as two high earners who can work from home. We will also pull our kids if they try and enforce that N95 nonsense. And masking is having a negative impact on our young child, her teachers have commented on it. She’s a different person, withdrawn and not as responsive. Experts agree this is terrible for kids psychologically.

Fairy tales for adults...
The only reason someone should be against N95 masks is because they might not fit well which makes their use meaningless.
Otherwise, at least you can speak without having to kiss your wet clothed mask all the time.
Yeah, I know the variety of their colors and appearance is not fancy

Some Americans are simpletons who are led by the rings in their noses by craven pieces of crap who want to undermine our nation. They're not smart enough to vaccinate, they think Tucker Carlson and Alex Jones have some good ideas.

A mask mandate might not make these pathetic sheep wear masks, which would protect their diabetes-laden uninsured asses... but it might help their kids not catch covid and bring it home to them at school.

But again, the entire point of this thread isn't to appeal to those folks. No. It's to make the argument seem reasonable now. Because that will be the next bread and circus the alt-right is frothing up for their base: politicizing masks.

Don't let them win.

Yeah, we get it. It’s about ‘winning’ for you. That’s why you’ll never admit how wrong you were. You were wrong about keeping MCPS schools closed to in person learning for over a year. You were wrong about shutting down kids sports and activities. You are wrong now about forcing 6 year olds to wear masks.

You would rather ignore the data than admit that you are wrong.

And that’s why we’re still stuck in this mess of arbitrary restrictions in Montgomery County.

Puppy, you don't live in Montgomery County, so why do you care?

I care because I have kids in MCPS. Where do you think I live? Why else would I be posting on here?

I care deeply about my kids who’ve suffered enough. Kindergartners shouldn’t have been masked in the first place in my (unpopular) opinion. But now that we have vaccines! Hospitalizations are low. Cases numbers are declining. Let’s do this! Other children can still mask if they want to.

1800 Americans died yesterday.

I’m not masking my fully vaccinated child to protect the unvaccinated in other parts of the country. The immunodeficient people have the vaccine, boosters, n95s. The situation won’t change for them and my child should not bear the burden.

Thank you for saying that. My sentiments, exactly. I don't care at all whether others choose to get the vaccine or not, but none of us should have to keep masking to protect those who choose not to get the shot. It's time to move forward. We are one of only a few jurisdictions across the country that are still masking.

People really think we should stop masking after spring break which is a huge travel time. You want another surge Ann’s in or you just don’t care.

I think we're masking to keep down the spread of covid to and from unvaccinated, vaccinated and boosted citizens. It seems that rona gonna rona regardless of vaccination status or masking.

What do you think?

yep whackadoodle. Let me guess you're part of the re-open mcps Facebook group.

Then why are we mandating vaccines for student athletes (and college students and for other random activities)?

This. Why are we so behind the curve here in MoCo? One of the last districts to have our kids back to school in person and now one of the last districts forcing 7 year olds to mask all day at school. This is embarrassing, considering we are a county full of such supposedly well-educated adults.
