How is that possible to not know!??? Just really really weird. Did he not hear about it? Maybe it wasn't a big deal in GA where he was teaching at the time. The world essentially shut down -- all flights were cancelled for at least a week (maybe many weeks)... there were big statements on tv at night and memorial concerts, and whatnot.

How can you not remember that time and the fear that our country was going to go to war? That is really weird.

I think I figured it out. He graduated from Yale in 2001 and from HLS in 2005. The year in the middle of those was the one where he was teaching history at the private school and going to parties with students - Trump has been harping on that. So the answer as to where he was is teaching history to high school students, and the answer to why he’s yada-yadaing over where he was during the actual event is that he doesn’t want to say that’s where he was and open himself up to questions about it.

We'll that did not work very well. Now we want to know exactly where he was and why he pretended not to remember. It was a Tuesday morning.....was he at school?

As a high school teacher in the South, yes of course he would have been at school on a Tuesday morning in September. But he doesn’t want to say “I was teaching my class at the Darlington School when we got that horrible news…” etc. etc. because then any good interviewer, even Piers Morgan, is going to use that as a jumping off point to ask him about his year teaching and about the allegations that he was partying with girls there.

Not trying to be argumentative with you PP, but if DeSantis intends to run for President now or in the future, he's going to have to answer this question. If he wants to run for any future office he probably needs to figure out how is he going to answer this. It won't go away. It's like blood in the water.

Wow, dramatic much? I’m quite sure he’ll have no issue stating where he literally was on 9/11 - I was stuck in traffic. So exciting! Most people don’t have some big, dramatic story to tell about where they were when they heard the news. But if you think that’s “blood in the water,” so be it. Your hyperbole is absurd, as usual.

See upthread. Youngkin just lost one of his main campaign guys to DeSantis’s PAC.

I'd say most of DeSantis's campaign staff are wondering if it's time to jump ship. I wonder how much pudding he's smearing over the campaign offices these days.

You sound hopeful. I think you’re going to be disappointed.

We'll see! I think at this moment his prospects are looking worse instead of better. The wind can always blow in a new direction.

But he did have an issue stating where he literally was on 9/11. Note that you yourself immediately offered up that you were stuck in traffic. Because EVERYONE of a certain age knows exactly where they were/how they found out. He doesn't need a dramatic story. He simply needed to say, I was in my classroom/out jogging/getting ready for work/at the grocery store/walking my dog/in traffic. That's probably what 97% of America was doing that morning. And the more excuses and minimizing all the DeSantis stans do simply draws attention to the fact that he sounded like a freak.

My guess is that PP agrees with you, but also sees RDS thinks he can outwit anything with enough time and rope...even if history doesn't show that.

He is not George W Bush. The donors will probably pull up their anchors at some point and sail off to better waters.

It's not the "crazy LWNJ take on things." His financial supporters are starting to question whether he's ready to run for president, based on things like that weird interview. Here's a piece that just came out about exactly that: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/ron-desantis-donors-allies-question-ready-2024-rcna76246

Here he's being compared - unfavorably - to Ted Cruz, who was the Great GOP Hope for a hot minute, too, if you remember: https://www.axios.com/2023/03/26/desantis-conundrum-trump-maga-polls

His feud with Trump is taking a toll on his numbers now, too: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/poll-desantis-gop-trump-b2305278.html

He doesn't seem ready to stand up to Trump, and he's not even doing the regular non-Trump part of this well. I don't care - keep saying how you think he's doing great! The longer you're hitched to him and Trump, the longer it'll take for you to figure out who is actually a good candidate. Please, take your time.

Like I keep saying - he could get better at this. I was just listening to a podcast about how Obama stunk on the campaign trail early in his first prez election, too. Obviously he got better. And then he won. I won't count Lil D out completely, but I will say that he's just as lousy as a campaigner as I thought he would be, and that's pleasing to see!

He was pictured at a graduation party for his students. Lots of our favorite teachers attended our graduation parties when I was in high school. But I get that it's super fun to take Trump's asinine, baseless attack and run with it.

He attended a grad party on 9/11?

He was asked during an interview by a friendly questioner. So someone cares - and everyone would have thought that he'd have an answer ready, at least.

Funny, your first link barely mentions the interview with Morgan. Kind of a leap to say that interview was a problem for anyone - you’re the only one calling it “weird”. He did very well, but it’s understandable that you’re going to make things up out of thin air to promote your narrative. And DeSantis hasn’t even announced yet - he’s hardly “campaigning” at this point.

The rest of your links I didn’t bother to look at because it’s clear you want an argument. We’ll just have to agree to disagree on DeSantis’s chances.

You really do refuse to see how this looks. Good on you for being loyal, I guess?

“How this looks”? Oh my. He looks perfectly fine. I come here to DCUM to get the crazy LWNJ take on things. Never fails to keep me entertained.

I said based on things "like" that weird interview - i.e., him repeatedly fumbling slow balls.

You've got stars in your eyes for Lil D, and far be it for me to convince you he's wearing pudding-smeared white boots.

I’d forgotten the memes of those shiny white boots he was wearing.

It is just plain weird that Ron couldn’t answer where he was on 9/11. That’s just a very weird thing for any adult American who was alive on that date and it makes him seem highly suspicious that he was either somewhere so inappropriate that he can’t share it with the group or that he so didn’t care that somehow the memory didn’t implant itself. Seriously the rest of that semester was a blur to me, but that day and the days around it are burned into my memory and I lived in duck-all middle of nowhere at the time.

It’s up there with Ted Cruz eating ice cream like an alien who’d never eaten human food and him liking the porn tweet (coincidentally on 9/11).

What other sacred dates are we supposed to know? Is my 20 y/o supposed to know where she was on 3/13/20? I highly doubt she does.
