Would you stay where you currently live? Move elsewhere in the region? Are there particular areas to stay away from? My family and I are relocating and I have never been to the area other than tourist spots in DC! I would really appreciate any feedback - thank you!
I'd probably live in Waterford, VA. Cute town and history but maybe a little remote. I might live in Georgetown. Or I would stay where I am in Bethesda but in a larger house.
I currently live downtown, and I would remain living downtown, but I would likely switch buildings.
Probably Georgetown
I do really love DC, and I love it more when I think about where else I might like to live. I could probably live in San Francisco, NYC, or Chicago. That might be it for me in the United States. I grew up in a teensy town (1500 people, one stop light), and moved here after college, and moved around a lot for my career. I have no desire to live in a small place, especially with kids now. They need to know that not all people are white and not everyone thinks the same way about everything. Plus, I find in DC every is really engaged and smart - and I learn a lot from friends and new people I meet. Sure, there are problems, but I think I like it better than most places I could (or have) lived.
Georgetown if I wanted to be more urban, more suburban would be Wesley Heights.
Move about a mile west to Chevy Chase with a much nicer house. Second home in Cape Town. Third home on Cape Cod.

If you've got kids, definitely take a hard look at Arlington. Perks of big city living -- easy metro access, etc. -- and a great place to raise a family. The schools, esp. in north Arlington, are top notch.
It's been said here many times. Arlington has a very middle manager, middle government feel. If money were no object Arlington would be last on the list. |
Somewhere in DC proper with a real yard, not a townhouse and actual parking. Maybe Cleveland Park or AU Park?
OP, please don't use a local's wish list as your basis for moving here. Consider your commute first and foremost.
Definitely Cleveland Park.
What is with all these Georgetown supporters? I don't really get it. I have spent a lot of time in Georgetown, and it seems to have the worst of all worlds (not comparing with slums, obviously): bad restaurants, bad public transportation, bad parking, bad accessiblity, crowded sidewalks... If you wanted more urban, I would understand Dupont or Penn Quarter, but I really don't understand what Georgetown has other than historical cache. Can someone please explain the current logic on this one?
