The article is a bit cavalier. We didn't come up with these strategies on a whim. Nor are they new. |
Cavalier or not, the man is a major expert in the field. I think it's useful to have a range of perspectives from people who work in the field. |
Thank you. The amount of flack I received from here, from people at work (still fully operational, even today!), from family and friends was so disheartening. I kept posting on here hoping eventually if myself and others that were also aware kept at it, that at some point people might listen and we might still have a chance. |
the article is ridiculous. we don't know the exact rates but we do know that hospitals across the world are overflowing with patients. |
Yeah, I have two bosses. One practically chastised me for asking about Covid three weeks ago. The other was skeptical and probably inwardly rolling his eyes but outwardly was solemn. Now here we are teleworking full time as I warned we would be. |
PP who was stressed before reading this. I do agree it's cavalier and I hate the "oh well only old people will die" because it sounds so eugenicist. But yes, it is good to have a lot of perspectives and I think this one is particularly important because it stresses that we are flying blind without tests. Testing is what governments should be focusing on more than anything. |
He acknowledged the problems with hospitals getting overwhelmed, but his response (and I don't know how valid it is) is that unless we flatten the curve substantially, social distancing will just prolong the time when hospitals are overwhelmed. Now I don't know if it's better to have one massive hospital disaser shortage for a three-week period or a smaller but significant hospital shortage for three months, but it's something to consider. But again, the main focus needs to be testing so we can really assess how big the threat is and how we should approach the problem. |

Students fleeing the outbreak in Europe and the US are headed back to the safety of Hong Kong and Singapore where people understand how to control the virus.
This is the level of PPE they are wearing.

| I'm curious about California, it seems have less cases than New York and Washington, are they really doing good or people just not getting tested? |
| 4200 new cases in Italy an almost 500 new deaths |
The experts knew - that's where I, at least, was getting my info - it's just that the experts are not in charge. |
The experts knew - that's where I, at least, was getting my info - it's just that the experts are not in charge. yep. and if you are minimally scientifically, geographically, and politically literate, it was pretty easy to tell from the Chinese reaction in January that the sh*t was going to hit the fan for the whole world. |
| Anybody have info on how the hospitals are doing? Are any getting overloaded? |
| The praise for China irritates me. They STARTED this mess. I don’t care what they are doing now. Have you forgotten the mass graves? The shut down of timely information? |
OMG for real. I mean I get it, they are doing good things, but when you just share the good things you're playing right into their authoritarian hands. Let's not forget the disappearing journalists, for one. |
