and we are using bad data to take bad decisions.. https://www.statnews.com/2020/03/17/a-fiasco-in-the-making-as-the-coronavirus-pandemic-takes-hold-we-are-making-decisions-without-reliable-data/
Yeah I read this too! I was freaking out before reading it and now I'm like...woah, what are we doing? I don't know who to believe because I am not an expert in these areas but I tell you what, if you want to be less stressed out and afraid, read this article.
The article is a bit cavalier. We didn't come up with these strategies on a whim. Nor are they new.
the article is ridiculous. we don't know the exact rates but we do know that hospitals across the world are overflowing with patients.
He acknowledged the problems with hospitals getting overwhelmed, but his response (and I don't know how valid it is) is that unless we flatten the curve substantially, social distancing will just prolong the time when hospitals are overwhelmed. Now I don't know if it's better to have one massive hospital disaser shortage for a three-week period or a smaller but significant hospital shortage for three months, but it's something to consider. But again, the main focus needs to be testing so we can really assess how big the threat is and how we should approach the problem.
