We’ll see who her witnesses are. And, as of now she is anonymous. “Growing pile of evidence.” You mean “growing pile of crappy allegations.” Anyone can make an allegation. ANYONE. I think the mistake that was made was taking Ford’s allegation so seriously. Without proof. Without corroboration. |
Judith Resnik (astronaut). |
Hollow victory if ACB is next nominee up. |
If only she were employed... and respectable... and had proof she had spoken of the attack in the past... and a lie dectector test oh wait |
The therapist notes don’t mention his name. It’s guilt by association with jerky prep school boys. |
So you're cool with your son getting too drunk and pushing a woman up against a wall forcibly in public in front of her daughter? You're cool with your brother pushing a girl into a room and rolling around with her while she said no and tried desperately to escape? Or are you like the rest of us. Learn early on to never leave your drink unattended, don't walk outside a bar or restaurant alone at night, meet a first date in a very public place and tell your friends where you're going just in case? |
I think if you're a victim of sexual abuse, there's a certain amount of anger there about having your voice and agency taken away. The anger is of course balanced by fear of what could happen to you for speaking out, especially after such a trauma. We're human. We can feel more than one thing at one time. At a certain point in time, as we see in the Cosby case, women who have been assaulted do come forward. They are no longer young. Many have been empowered by better relationships, professional work, life experience in the world. All of these things tell them they are worth something and their word and their truth is important. Is it that hard to imagine that at that point in life, seeing someone who you know abuses power behind closed doors and acts in public as if he is good -- seeing that person rise to a position of power over others -- awakens the same fears all over again? But this time, you're not going to shove them down. You're a grown up. You're going to weigh the consequences of silences for others. You're a parent. You're thinking of your daughter, your son. The kind of world you want them to live in. You're a citizen. And with all of those real world considerations in mind, you tell your truth. It is not only cathartic, although it might in part be. It is also terrifying and re-traumatizing. You are attacked in all the ways you feared you would be. At the same time, you are supported. Your voice helps others to come forward. Your courage helps others to be heard. That's it. It's not that hard to understand is it? Human beings want to connect. They want meaning. They want to do their small part to make the world better. And even the weakest among us have a voice with which to speak truth to power. |
You're the idiot. (I don't usually talk like that, but liberals are teaching me.) She went to Montgomery College. Not sure if she completed her program. |
I wonder if Kavanaugh will "categorically deny" this one, too? #LIAR

Really? Anyone? Under sworn oath? With the risk of perjury and jail time? With risk of career suicide? Why would an otherwise perfectly respectable person with a solid career, no history of any political activity, with absolutely nothing to gain have the intimate details of a sexual attack derided and ripped apart by an all male committee? |
Her online resume indicated she went to Montgomery College. The WaPo interviewed her 95 year old father who said she didn’t go to college. “According to her online résumé, Swetnick attended Montgomery County Community College, where she took pre-med courses. But by the mid-1990s, she had jumped into the exploding world of Web development, accumulating a string of IT and software certifications. A contract job at the State Department started her on government work. Her experience has included work for U.S. embassies, Customs and Border Protection and the Internal Revenue Service. She has held security clearances at the Departments of State, Justice, Treasury and Homeland Security, according to her résumé. “She never went to college, but she bootstrapped herself and became a computer expert,” her father said. “She’s a sharp woman.” “ |
Yep, 35 years and adulthood doesn’t make a difference, they don’t change folks. |
Too bad none of the men who participated in this kind of behavior have the courage to step up. I guess if they were that brave to begin with, they wouldn't have to grope and drug women in the first place. |
You all need to give up on sleazy 0'Kegger Kavanaugh. He has creep written all over. Women are voting in November by the droves. If any Republican wants to keep office think real hard about pushing this Kreep with obvious issues on the American people. Trump only wants him to avoid impeachment. 5 years from now you are gonna regret what you do tomorrow unless you wake up to 2018. Kavanaugh is 1950s. That past is dead. |
FYI, most normal American families don't sent away their 9th grade child up to a New England boarding school, not from here where we have a good number of top-notch privates. Now, if there's a messy divorce or severe family dysfunction, that's another story. |
