But, here we are again. So awful. There are a lot of fine, upstanding young AA men, their mothers, and fathers who must be sick about this today.
And, for whatever it's worth, I am a white, middle-aged woman with kids who went to the same schools as the Savopoulos children.

If a white person commits murder, do you feel sick about it?

No one wants to answer that question.....

I agree and it scared the shut out of me.

This was my initial thought as well. I hope the police catch him/them before anyone else gets hurt. The suspects have nothing to lose at this point.

EVERY time I see RAGING violent behavior,
I wonder what kind of every childhood they had.

Either neglect or abuse. Neither is an "excuse."

*EARLY childhood....

Violence against children is horrific.

I gave a possible answer at the bottom of page 173...

I am a woman and a runner - my group has had several speakers talk to us about the dangers of running alone and what we should do if confronted - the common theme is "surprise your attacker by aggressively defending yourself - scream, kick, punch, go for vulnerable physical places". But this assumes you are alone, not in your home where your child is potentially being used as a pawn.
I also think most of us aren't like our attackers - we think that we can talk through the situation and bring some "reason" to a truly unreasonable, sociopath.

I agree. Another possibility was that the wife, housekeeper and child were already bound when father got home. So first thing he saw could have been one or more criminals with knives to his child's throat, and from then on it was impossible to react in any way.

I'd agree that this seems like a very likely possibility. Especially based on the timeline of him being at the studio and then coming home in the evening, and the fact that the housekeeper was supposed to leave at 3pm ( but now we know that for some reason she was still there being held hostage).

Is it likely that there was some money already in the house and the 40K was a top up of some sort? i am finding it hard to believe that 2 or more people will torture 4 people for so long for just 40K ..how long will that last if split up?

why? Lots of people are brutally murdered. You've all lost all sense of reality.

THANK YOU. This is a horrible tragedy, but let's be honest. Horrible crimes like this happen in rich and poor neighborhoods across America every week.

I doubt crimes like this are a common occurrence. I think it is a rare individual who can cause all the mayhem he did. His life must be absolutely devoid of any hope.

No, actually he could just be a psychopath. Feeling hopeless doesn't allow you to torture a little boy.

So I guess he is just a "bad seed" and this was just his destiny? This, jail or a mental institution? Sounds pretty hopeless to me.

It wasn't random everyone. He knew the father and worked for him.

Probably not in exactly the same way. I mean, when a white person commits a murder, it doesn't further the majority's fear of and anger at white people in general. As a white person, it just doesn't have the same effect.

then you are crazy. I am white and I remember feeling sick about the Petit murders, a nice family who's life was turned upside down suddenly by a couple of thugs, beaten and sexually assaulted and then murdered even after the perps got the money, in way that was very very similar to what happened to the Sav. family. it's the type of violent, totally senseless murders that fuels the outrage and fear (can something like that happen to my family?), certainly not the color of the skin of the people who did it. ask Dr. Petit if he is relieved that his wife was raped and strangled by a white guy instead of a black guy.

Stop with the dread bashing!!

I love dreads/locks or whatever you want to call them

It's a stupid Obsession.

And fwiw I am a middle aged white female who lives in same general area as victims and has kids at same schools.

Yeah, me either. I know so many AA professionals with dreads - men and women - I don't understand. I only see is as a hairstyle.

+1

I'm mixed (white & asian), and don't get it either. It's a hair style. So what? I think you have to be conditioned to see something wrong with having dreads, like like many are conditioned to only see violent crime as largely perpetrated by black men. What a crazy degree of historical ignorance.

It was always the most logical explanation, especially once it became known it was an overnight thing. I was surprised at how many people bought into these wild ex-businessman theories.

Exactly what I expected. It was pretty clear as details came out that we weren't dealing with a criminal with any kind of sophistication. I have no idea where the wild theories came from other than victim-blaming.
