So they are going to ask families to pay tuition to get an education that’s almost as good as the one they get for free. This will allow them to then get the chance to go to a school to play a sport that doesn’t offer any real athletic money where the tuitions are beyond their reach in the first place.

Players usually get offered tuition reductions or get on scholarship. Or in some cases, yes, they will pay to go. Depends.

At GC for lax? Nope. And certainly not on any number to make them competitive year over year. And not when those same families get a free education for the same quality.

Then I guess the new HC is going to have issues recruiting

You never know…. This model of subsidizing tuition has worked very well for the Bullis and SJC athletics programs. Why wouldn’t it work for GC?

Private school education is *different* than public - some think it's better, some don't, and often times what is better depends on the kid. There are plenty of kids from MoCo and HoCo who drive 1hr+ into DC or BAL to play lacrosse (and other sports) at private schools. GC is starting to get a decent number of those kids now. If you look at the last few recruiting classes, GC is getting a lot of kids from top-level clubs (HoCo Elite) which historically was not the case. If GC can be competitive (at least WCAC semi's) each year, even more families will see it as a more convenient option.

I know how great it worked out for Boarman when it was discovered he and a certain board member had back room scholarships for some rich lax families and not others. Bullis legacy scholarships end with the 25’s.

btw. The new president at sjc was brought in to bring in more money, not give away aid to families who can afford it. It’s the opposite of what some thought.

Neutral Observer's Top 10 - Week of April 1st.

1. Bullis (7-1): The Bulldogs will go as far as their 2025 class can take them. A major IAC battle with rival Landon looms this Friday, but first don't sleep on North Carolina power Cardinal Gibbons.

2. Landon (6-2): Da Bears have depth on the offensive side of the ball this Spring and their defense is playing locked down. Bullis on deck. Despite not being the most physically imposing squad, the Bears are extremely athletic.

3. Gonzaga (4-4): Eagles picked up a huge W over Jesuit rival, GP last week. Have the Eagles finally turned the corner?

4. Georgetown Prep (5-3): The Hoyas have been a bit inconsistent this year and blowing leads late in the 4th quarter is never a good sign. On a bright side, Ciaran McCleary (Hopkins signee), has had a phenomenal season thus far for GP. The Hoyas will steam-roll IAC foe St Stephens later this week.

5. St Johns (1-4): Great victory over Taft last week. The young Cadets appear to have found their stride playing a close game with LI power Saint Anthony's. An interesting test with PVI the week of 4/8 will be a game to follow.

6. Good Counsel (7-1): HC Dane Smith could be up a potential coach of the year recognition if the Falcons find away to sneak into the WCAC 'ship in May. Solid win over DeMatha last week. Falcons won't be tested these next two weeks until a date with SJC in the middle of the month.

7. PVI (6-1): Hard to gauge how strong this PVI squad is. Good win over Ponte Vedra from Florida. The Panthers won't be tested until they face-off against SJC next week.

8. St Albans (6-6): The Bulldogs played Gilman close for one half and ran out of gas. DeMatha on deck for this Wednesday will be a game to follow.

9. DeMatha (4-2): Similar to PVI, hard to assess how strong this Stags team is this Spring. DeMatha's teams are always filled with athletes though.

10. Episcopal (4-3): The loss last week to Potomac from the MAC is a head scratcher. The Maroon are in a complete re-build this year.

Some general observations...

After a month of game results, observing comparative scores, the IAC is a three-horse race between Bullis, Landon and GP. Episcopal and St. Stephens are struggling this year and appear to be way down. My bet is Landon and GP will find away back to the IAC finals in May.

Things are a bit more interesting in the WCAC. While the league is down, four teams appear capeable of making a run at the WCAC title. I'm betting the Purple Eagles will make their way back to the WCAC ship but will be fun to watch who they have a date with - SJC, PVI or even GC.

One thing is for certain, the picture will becmore more clear over the next few weeks.

For starters the education is actually better at SJC and Bullis...as sad as that is to write. At GC, you can get the same level of education for free at Magruder, Blake or Sherwood.

What gives with all of you GC haters? Did you have kids go through there? What first-hand knowledge do you have of their offerings and their quality? I have DC who graduated from there. GC has a broad range of academic opportunities and our experience was excellent. The school can cater to those needing support through those who are high-flyers.

no dog in the fight here but I utterly disagree with the above statement.

When you can't win on the sports level, you go to academics. Happens alot on here with Prep/Landon/Bullis/STA boosters. Without lacrosse, these schools are not on the same level with the WCAC in any sports aside from soccer/squash/tennis and handball

This might be the dumbest post I have encountered on this forum in a long time.

99% of athletes don't go professional. PERIOD

I'll take my chances with sending my son to an IAC school that offers high academics.

Agreed. Also, sometimes it isn't just about the reading, writing, and arithmetic. There are other things taught in schools that steer parents away from public or Catholic schools.
