More likely, they were sitting on a bench waiting for the bike to reset. She approached and saw the bike untended, she got on it before the men came close.

It sounds like from videos of others made from the sister's video, he was standing next to or near the bike. She approached him and asked to use the bike, he said no, she asked again, he said no, but he wasn't renting it so she wanted to get home and rented the bike. He got upset she rented the bike, grabbed the bike to redock it, and at that point he rented the bike (and it sounds like he had planned to rent it again at some point but at that point she rented it, he was not paying for it) to put his claim on it.

Her lawyer's statement is that the bike was untended when she got on it.

She didn't yell and scream and stop making it about those men as the victim when they aren't. She grabbed his phone to see the receipt. If they are such fine men, why not stand up and say your side. The sisters side makes sense.

There is a double standard in your analysis. No woman should assault a man by grabbing at his phone to get her way. If this had been reversed, a man doing this to a group of women, there would be outcry. She should keep her hands to herself.

She was wrong to grab the phone but she was also probably trying to get her to let her go and he's basically restraining her. If he wanted that bike, his rear end should have been on it holding it. She was probably trying to look at the receipt.

How was he restraining her? He restrained the bike but not her person.

He reached across her pregnant belly to scan his QR code. He touched her then.

That doesn't really meet anyone's definition of restraining. Are you the same crazy person who said that she was kidnapped?

The things you are saying don't really exist in reality.

You're arguing in bad faith. Several pp's have explained to you that the guy held onto the bike with her on it, after pushing it back into the dock with her on it. That's bodily restraint.

Then, pp with the kidnapping was making an analogy. Presumably you know what an analogy is, but here you are pretending that was an actual claim.

Also, all your ad hominems are just childish.

If you want to persuade anybody about your position, you need to start arguing in good faith.

PP again. The point about kidnapping is a simile not an analogy, if it matters. Same point--if you're pretending that was an actual argument, you need to grow up.

The sister says something different. So, either way, the bike was not rented by him when she rented it. I suspect he was nearby and the sister said she asked to rent it and he declined. He should have been paying for it if he was holding it and claiming it was his. The bike wasn't being used by him as he wasn't paying for it or renting it when she did.

Omg she was not screaming bloody murder. Not even close. She yelled for help. A pretty lame yell at that. She was probably exhausted from her shift and just wanted out of the situation.

And yet for all the yelling she did, the dry tears and such, she immediately went along her merry way when a passerby merely suggested that she try for a different bike. She blanked for a minute, because you could tell that it never occurred to her to just check out the bike right next to the one she was carrying on about. This could have ended much earlier, if they had conveyed that they were waiting for the system to reset and if she had checked out the bike right next to their bike.

What on earth was she supposed to do? No one would care if she reported it to the police as it's been reported and the police have done nothing. So, her only option was to get off the bike, get a new one and go home. She was pregnant off a 12 hours shift. One can assume she was pretty tired.

Why didn't the men just change around bikes or take a free bike? None of that makes sense.

I mean she could have just pulled out her phone and called the citibike people off to the side and they would have locked the bike. She could have explained there was a dispute between the bikes and she was not sure who was the rightful owner. Instead she had a complete meltdown. I don't believe she was in fear because people in fear don't attempt to snatch a man's phone from his hand and touch him.

You won't answer the question: Why is this all on her? Why couldn't the guy have gotten a different bike?

This is not an accurate description of what happened.

If you cannot make your point without exaggerating, you don't have a point to make. Let me show you how it's done:

The group of young men laughed and jeered at the woman while preventing her from renting the bike. One of them physically tried to displace her on the bike, and she asked him several time to stop touching her and to specifically stop touching her stomach, noting that she was pregnant. When she became visibly upset, they videographer told her that that she was fake crying and then also told her to stop crying. One of the young men in a lavender sweatshirt appeared to disagree with the behavior of the other men, suggesting that it wasn't worth it and they should let her have the bike. After the woman got off the bike, the young men continued to laugh and shout at her, one of them saying the the woman's baby was going to "come out ret***ed."

Tell me where I have lied or exaggerated about what the men in the video did.

Where is the video account for all of this?

It doesn't sound like they were stealing it. It sounds like there is a time limit per bike and they planned to rent it again per the rules. He rode it prior to her renting and he clearly paid for it and had an account. However, he hadn't rented it and while waiting, she walked up and rented it.

Spending 15 minutes on hold with Citibike is not a plausible solution.

Even if it were realistic, why did she have to call Citibike, and not the men? She was already sitting on the bike and had already rented it out.

Then there's your hyperbole about a "complete meltdown" from a pregnant woman who has just finished a 12-hour shift on her feet. I doubt very much I would have been as composed as she was. This board is so darn misogynistic.

Well she is the adult here, these are a group of young teens. Given their lack of maturity and that brains don't fully form into adulthood until you are at least 25. I think more responsibility lies on her from the perspective of a former teacher.

I don't think he was trying to get out of paying as if he was stealing the bike, he wouldn't have redocked it. It looks like you can pay a monthly fee and get a specific amount of time per ride or day and he was waiting for his account to be reset to keep going after his time was up with his account/plan. He wasn't stealing it to his defense. He was hanging out with friends, his time was up, he docked it and planned to rent it again - it sounds like you have to wait a certain amount of time to reuse it for free/low cost. He clearly paid and had an account.

These guys weren't 12. They were 17 or 18 years old. Old enough to know how to take responsibility for their own actions, and old enough to choose an available bike next door.

That bit about age 25 has been debunked, which you'd know if you were an expert in brain growth.
