Official Brett Kavanaugh Thread

A lot of people - men and women are coming out and sharing their own stories.

Kavanaugh is going to bring down the republican party.

Nah. If anything, it is bringing us together looking at how horrible the Democrats have been behaving.
Victim blaming? You mean asking about taxes is now victim blaming? If that is what you think, you are officially a snowflake.

When someone comes out at the eleventh hour and makes horrendous accusations, especially with CPL as the attorney, people are going to ask questions. They want to know her motivations. Because.........

If this happened back in the early 80’s, she has had over 30 years to bring these allegations forward. It is very understandable to be hesitant to report sexual assault. But, to wait over 30 years, and to decide the best time to bring these allegations forward is when the accused is in the national spotlight screams, “Look at me!” If these women really were fearful and afraid of scrutiny, why bring these allegations when the accused is so front and center? Why not when he was being considered for the appeals court? Or, even after he was confirmed for that.

No. She said she was raped in '82 but went to parties '82-'83.

So young people should never go to a party again if something bad happens? I mean, I can understand not wanting to, but that's an individual decision. I fell off a balcony during Beach Week and broke my ankle, but that didn't stop me from going back the next year for more stupid partying.

Falling off a balcony was something you did to yourself. That is totally different. If you saw women getting forced to drink tainted punch and boys were lining up to take turns raping them, would you really go to a party where those boys were going to be? If you didn't know, and they showed up, would you really stay and party with them? Would you partake of that rapey punch?

I mean, damn. My son went to a HS party last year and some guy showed some people he had a gun. He and his friends left the party. Fast forward to this year. They go to a party and lo and behold, that guy shows up. Guess what they did? They hauled ass out of the party. And that dude wasn't shooting anybody with it.

I disagree. I might ignore my assaulter as long as I could. Upon hearing he is to become a SCJ, I might feel compelled to reveal that he is not of good moral character. Makes perfect sense in the context of sexual assault.

No, you don’t go back to the same parties with the same people who are supposedly still drugging and raping girls. No way, no how.

When you went to a party back then, you had no idea who was going to be there. Read the piece in slate by the NCS grad. Read the piece in Vanity Fair about the Holton grads.

Or read Mark Judge’s book...

The Supreme Court is the basis foe the unholy alliance between economic conservatives (lovers of tax cuts and deregulation at all costs) and the evangelicals that have pledged their lives to reversing roe v wade. To pretend that a SCOTUS position is not a bigger deal with more implications that could cause a reluctant accuser to come forward now is just asinine.

Any lawyer who's not a moron would refuse to submit to the Star Chamber proceedings that are guaranteed by a party that said the accusations against BK are just a "hiccup" and that it will "plow right through them" and get him on the SCOTUS. Any interview or hearing needs to be televised so the country can see this infamy in broad daylight.

Kavanaugh lawyer asks why Avenatti client Swetnick kept returning to parties when she knew gang rapes were going on. Avenatti, on CNN: 'My client did not have all of the details about what was going on in those back rooms at each party she went to.’

So, she is making allegations based on what she heard? And, she just KNOWS that Kavanaugh was there, in line?

Then, she will NEVER get a hearing. Enough with making demands on this committee.
I strongly question her credibility.

Mark Judge's ex-girlfriend's allegations corroborate Swetnick's nicely.

Anonymous wrote:Though I find Ford’s account credible (and don’t want Kavanaugh on SC), Swetnick is suspect. Makes no sense that she was at high school parties and beach week when she was in college. Plus, she knew drinks were being spiked and gang rapes going on but she went back to 10 parties? Swetnick owes MD Comptroller $62K, presumably in back taxes. I don’t understand how she has been able to keep her security clearance. Things aren’t making sense.

Where does it say she graduated in 1980? I know her socially and there is no way she’s that old!

She is 55 and graduated in 1980. Use google if you don’t believe me.

What do you know about the $62K she owes in taxes? How does she still have a security clearance?

She doesn't owe anything in taxes.

According to MD Judiciary Case Search / Circuit Court Judgments and Liens, the Comptroller of Maryland entered a judgment against her on 10/2/15 for $62,822.03. It does not show it was satisfied.

Whether she owes back taxes or not is totally irrelevant to the Kavanaugh situation.

Oh for gosh sakes, delay the hearing, delay the nomination and initiate an FBI investigation - 3 women have come forward with credible accusations. This is not a court of law - it's a job interview and until this is fully investigated, with witness interviews, the Supreme Court as an institution will be forever tainted if this guy is nominated without a full investigation. Clear and simple.

Yep. I was raped my freshman year in college. I was inebriated and at a frat house so in true 80s style I blamed myself and have never spoken of it. This Kavanaugh ordeal prompted me to think about what I went through. I’ve known my attacker’s name the entire time yet I did nothing. Today, I drafted a letter to that piece of shit who, I learned through google, is an elected office in Burke County North Carolina.

I don't question her credibility. I don't question Dr. Ford or Ms. Ramirez's credibility either.
And there are MILLIONS of people like me.

I did not have an experience exactly like these girls back then, and am younger, but had others, heard and witnessed certain things. I went to one of the best publics and there was crossover IME, because of particular overlapping activities with some of the prestige privates. None of what’s alleged can shock the hell out of a student in Montgomery County, parts of Nova and the district from late 70s-early 90s.

Haven’t seen one. My college-aged daughter and I have had some interesting discussions over the past few days. My #MeToo moments were street- and workplace-related (not friends/peers/parties) and involved harassment without any violence or sexual contact. But I realized something I’d never articulated to her before. Which is that when I choose where/when to walk one of my constraints is avoid being alone in an area where no one could hear you if you screamed. How effed up is it that we live in a culture where one subgroup of the population could internalize and normalize that kind of principle? (And another subgroup would think it was batshit crazy).
