I imagine they’ve had a couple weeks to process things and agree that there is no evidence other than she drowned. The body may wash up and it never might. There’s no reason to prolong things, it is clear they were both DRUNK and they went swimming. He made it out and she didn’t. There’s nothing more to do there.

Not only is he an unfounded killer with no criminal record and a good clean solid background but this frankly totally average looking girl becomes “pretty,” which teases out how biased and personally you’re taking this.

More like they feel the investigative process has been thorough and they believe the most likely scenario (drowning while drunk) is what happened. They're also embarrassed by the circumstances of her death, would like the ugly speculation to stop so they can move forward and focus on the grieving process.
