He did this without the FBI information, which in and of itself is wholly incomplete, thanks to the restrictions the White House put on the extended investigation.

This is so shameful, I weep for our country.

Anyone who supports this can go to hell.

Sad that you feel that way.

I am far more concerned that a man has been falsely accused for political purposes. There is no evidence otherwise. No matter how much you dislike him, you know that is true. People are so obsessed with hatred that they have lost sight of what justice is.

Except for emotion, there is no reason to believe Ford. Way too many changes in her testimony from her first story. Sad that we have come to this.

If they move fast enough, he'll be confirmed before the evidence is widely known.

Why is that a good way to proceed?

I care more about the incessant lying he did under oath. Clearly you are ok with a SUPREME COURT JUSTICE who is a liar.

That is unbelievable.

Interesting to see what the Maine papers have to say about Collins. They predict she will vote no. And that she wants out of the Senate in 2020 if Trump is still around.

I think the 8 justices currently on SCOTUS are horrified at what is going on. I think that each one of them are thinking... “Geez. I’m glad nobody searched deep into my high school years because there are things there that they would certainly consider disqualifying.” I think they are disgusted that the argument is coming down to what was written in his HS yearbook and the fact that he likes beer.

It’s a travesty. Nobody is a saint. Nobody has made Kavanaugh out to be a saint. He’s human - just like the other 8 justices who have been confirmed. And, simply because people have leveled false allegations at him, we have come to this. It’s pathetic.

This, exactly. I picture all of the other justices quietly burning their high school yearbooks and memorabilia, silently thanking their lucky stars that no one falsely accused them of anything.

That's silly. No one cares about the drinking. It's the lying about the drinking under oath, the possibly sexual assault, and the partisan rancor on full public display. The other justices (well, with the possible exception of CT) don't have to worry about that.

The SC justices are praying tonight that he won't be confirmed. Talk about awkward. I don't think kavaugh would find a friend in CT.

There are others who actually deserve to be on that court. Anyone else would be better.

Read the latest about Renate and tell us you re ok with Judge Kavanaugh.

So the yearbook shows multiple participants in "Devils Triangle" - like jr year and sr year. Seems pretty clear this is a sexual reference.

If it were a quarters game, why would this be noted in the yearbook?

Correction: 7 of the justices are praying he doesn’t get conformed. Thomas will finally have a fellow pervert to hang with and be besties.

Maine newspapers are suggesting Collins is a no.

Murkowski has plenty of political cover to be a no.

This cracks me up. Attack a man by accusing him of attempted rape. Have activists make his family's life a living hell. The say he doesn't have the temperament for a judge because he came in swinging to protect himself and his family.

When an innocent man is wrongly accused, that's usually how they react. Ask any police officer as it's one of the things they look for in a suspect when someone is murdered. Guilty people tend to act more like Ford did, i.e. story changes all the time, can't pin down details, say someone can vouch and they can't, etc.

This is exactly correct. Thank you.

Wrong. Coming from a long line of police officers. COMPLETELY wrong. BIGLY WRONG.

Sheesh. I can't keep up with this thread but the first poster above is wrong. I have 22 years of experience with interviewing suspects and the innocent ones do not behave like cornered animals. I think many people commenting on his demeanor did not see all his testimony. The media cherry picked the fairly mild parts. The crying about his father's calendars was bizarre. As if his dad were long dead. There he was sitting with his second wife three seats down from Brett. Between the easily rebutted lies and his courtroom demeanor I think he is not a good candidate for the highest court. He should be above all reproach.

It's over. This means FBI didn't find anything new and McConnell has the votes. He will be confirmed this week.

Let's talk about Debbie Ramirez's allegation. She spoke to FBI agents for 2 hours, and gave them the names of several witnesses. So far as she knows none of those witnesses were contacted by the FBI.

Well, guess what? They are all coming out and talking because they are angry that Debbie has put herself out there and her allegation is being swept under the rug.

Kavanaugh's freshman year college roommate was on CNN tonight for a long interview and has written a piece that's in Slate. He says that BK lied under oath.

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2018/10/brett-kavanaugh-college-roommate-jamie-roche.html

But I can say that he lied under oath. He claimed that he occasionally drank too much but never enough to forget details of the night before, never enough to “black out.” He did, regularly. He said that “boofing” was farting and the “Devil’s Triangle” was a drinking game. “Boofing” and “Devil’s Triangle” are sexual references. I know this because I heard Brett and his friends using these terms on multiple occasions.

I can’t imagine that anyone in the Senate wants to confirm an individual to a lifetime appointment on the United States Supreme Court who has demonstrated a willingness to be untruthful under oath about easily verified information.

And Mayer and Farrow have a new article in the New Yorker, documenting that the FBI ignored Ramirez's witnesses. The previously unidentified witness who was 100% certain he had heard about what BK did a day or two later is Kenneth Appold, the James Hastings Nichols Professor of Reformation History at Princeton Theological Seminary. Not a credible guy at all.

He said that he never discussed the allegation with Ramirez, whom he said he barely knew in college. But he recalled details—which, he said, an eyewitness described to him at the time—that match Ramirez’s memory of what happened. “I can corroborate Debbie’s account,” he said in an interview. “I believe her, because it matches the same story I heard thirty-five years ago, although the two of us have never talked.”

Appold, who won two Fulbright Fellowships, and earned his Ph.D. in religious studies from Yale in 1994, also recalled telling his graduate-school roommate about the incident in 1989 or 1990. That roommate, Michael Wetstone, who is now an architect, confirmed Appold’s account and said, “it stood out in our minds because it was a shocking story of transgression.”

If the Senate confirms Kavanaugh, these stories aren't going away, and more will probably come out. But they just don't care. It makes me ill.

The FBI wasn't allowed to do a complete investigation. The White put a muzzle on the FBI who was not allowed to follow up with leads that could confirm or dispel the allegations. They didn't talk to Ford or Kavanaugh. They didn't talk with over 40 people who have pertinent information but were not interviewed.

It is outrageous to suggest this was what Flake asked for.

Nah. McConnell wants this over with. The longer it drags on, the worse it gets. He doesn't have the votes, he just wants this done.

Also, 650 (and counting) law professors opposing his confirmation, which will be delivered to JC tomorrow. Front page NYT.

Honestly, who care what a bunch of lefty law professors thinks? Most of them fall into the “if you can’t do, teach” category.

Maybe you haven't noticed that many of them are from Catholic Law schools. and it's now 1,000 and counting.
