They'll complain to the DOC and if he ignores them they'll go to a club that doesnt allow Aug birthdays play down. Once a club loses 2-3 top players because of losers playing down they'll ban the practice.

Except what about the kid who has a October bday but in the higher grade? Or the June kid who's in a lower grade? The only rule there'll be is Aug-July. Everything else will be individual where people will look for best opportunity for their kid, including finding the best situation if they're good enough to compete for a college opportunity.

Split hairs all you want.

A player playing down a grade is unrecruitable for college coaches. Its this simple. Either you play on a team with your grade or you wont play in college. If you dont intend to play in college please inform your coach so they can replace you with someone that wants to play in college.

Not true. Recruiting is highly individual. Kids who are misaligned sometimes need to put in some extra work to make sure coaches know what grade they are in, but it doesn't mean they aren't seen OR recruited. They are, especially if they got the skills. You gotta also remember it's not just top leagues where kids are seen. Kids go to college camps and ID sessions. This change from BY to SY will lessen the grade misalignment but it will continue to exist as will the workarounds as kids see college opportunities.

What college coach would ever choose to roster a player thats playing against players that are a grade below them in school. They literally recruit 24 year old euro acadamy washouts.

This is the dumbest comment Ive ever seen.

It's literally what they do now. Go to any ECNL team webpage, you'll see players with 2 grades and 2 grades that go to top level schools. That won't change.

Those players are playing up stupid.

You're arguring for Aug birthdays to play DOWN.

College coaches will ignore them because they're playing DOWN.

You realize kids graduate on different timelines regardless of birth month. Top level recruits now even enter college the spring before they normally would to get a head start. It's highly individual. And frankly, if a Aug kid who's a HS freshmen, shines on a team with mostly 8th graders next, they shine on that video highlight reel just the same.

Just because you want it to be true doesnt mean its is true. Coaches will ignore players playing down. They have 100s of options to choose from. Nobody wants a player thats questionable and not playing on a team with players in their grade.

I'm sure you'll be able to find some expensive private school that will offer you a 6k scholorship off 90k yearly tuition. But everyone else will laugh at you and your kid.

Who says the recruit is questionable? All that matters if they can ball. Ball don't lie.

They are playing down a grade. For a recruiter they're looking for top talent that will graduate a specific year.

How do you evaluate a player thats graduating a certain year but playing at a level below everyone else that's graduating that year?

Because they evaluate more than just from league play. There's showcases, ID camps, summer camps and usually the top kids get invites to all sorts of things that have nothing to do with what team they are on. The team/league just helps to open the door. And those invites are from coaches and scouts watching them play over several seasons, so even players are teams that don't win can and do get opportunities.

Is that what your DOC told you?

It's what I'm seeing for my kid and my kid's teammates and older kids at our club and rival clubs -- all part of an eco-system at the highest level.

I'm a little worried that getting to a 1,000 pages is a little tainted though now that we know the multiple personality SY and then subtract 60 days / Leo birthday hater crazy was the same person and driving the thread by barfing out so much wrong insanity. Worried an asterisk would be put on the thread

Why lock this thread. Once coaches tell you next season that they're not going to allow playing down you'll just open new thread complaining about it.

I can't believe I'm going to ask this, I swore I was done with responding to this...to the poster saying for the bazillionth time ...does your daughter currently play with this August player? Has there been an issue with it up to this possible time she has to play with her next fall? what is the the issue next fall that isn't currently? what changes for that august player and your sept daughter next year that isn't exactly the same this year?

My kid plays up and starts currently and will likely continue playing up even after changing from BY to SY.

You're the one trying to find workarounds and loopholes to play down.

Plays up in age or grade? Assume grade unless you reply.

Then, you really shouldn't care and focus on your kid. If a Aug kid plays with their new age group but happens to be in the higher grade, let their parents worry about it. If they can't play up an age now, they might actually get highlights playing at that level next year that leads to better opportunities later on. Kids keep developing as players. Someone who plays USYS or lower level leagues might not reach their potential until later in HS.

I understand that some months ago MLSN would push for remaining BY, but now it's clear that they have lost the battle.

So if they don't want to lose the market war against USCS/ECNL/USYS/etc they'd better join SY.

"If you cannot defeat your enemy, join him."
Julius Caesar

Nobody in MlS is worried losing the market war to ECNL. Sorry

They are winning in many markets for sure but that doesn't mean they can just coast and forget about competitors. They were winning the direct battle against ECNL before and I think they will continue that by just switching to SY like everyone else and continue winning. It makes no sense for them to take their foot off the gas now and give ECNL an out. I don't think they care about what BY or SY enough to be emotionally invested in it.

Its more than that. MLS wants to appear professional to do this they need to run their environments like all the other pro leagues and teams do. Which is likely why BY will stay for the top teams.

Maybe. I used to think this as well, but the creation of MLSN2 shows a different side to this. I mean, that is just a cash grab youth league like any other cash grab youth league. No problem with that, but it has nothing to do with running an international pro league... So the 'we're the pros' may be more lip service (and marketing) than many want to admit.

Every single coach since 2017 and BY was implemented? When we made it more mixed in grades students are in.

No coach said man that Jan kid looks good but I’d love to see them play up.

You’re the only one with dumb comments.

They can’t accept reality. Obviously they know of some talented Aug kids who are going to be taking spots next year and want them to play up instead.

No, I just care about integrity of youth soccer. More specifically not letting GY idiots play down. While being accommodateming to college recruiters that want all players on the field during games to be the same grade.
