They'll complain to the DOC and if he ignores them they'll go to a club that doesnt allow Aug birthdays play down. Once a club loses 2-3 top players because of losers playing down they'll ban the practice.

Except what about the kid who has a October bday but in the higher grade? Or the June kid who's in a lower grade? The only rule there'll be is Aug-July. Everything else will be individual where people will look for best opportunity for their kid, including finding the best situation if they're good enough to compete for a college opportunity.

Split hairs all you want.

A player playing down a grade is unrecruitable for college coaches. Its this simple. Either you play on a team with your grade or you wont play in college. If you dont intend to play in college please inform your coach so they can replace you with someone that wants to play in college.

Not true. Recruiting is highly individual. Kids who are misaligned sometimes need to put in some extra work to make sure coaches know what grade they are in, but it doesn't mean they aren't seen OR recruited. They are, especially if they got the skills. You gotta also remember it's not just top leagues where kids are seen. Kids go to college camps and ID sessions. This change from BY to SY will lessen the grade misalignment but it will continue to exist as will the workarounds as kids see college opportunities.

What college coach would ever choose to roster a player thats playing against players that are a grade below them in school. They literally recruit 24 year old euro acadamy washouts.

This is the dumbest comment Ive ever seen.

It's literally what they do now. Go to any ECNL team webpage, you'll see players with 2 grades and 2 grades that go to top level schools. That won't change.

Those players are playing up stupid.

You're arguring for Aug birthdays to play DOWN.

College coaches will ignore them because they're playing DOWN.

You realize kids graduate on different timelines regardless of birth month. Top level recruits now even enter college the spring before they normally would to get a head start. It's highly individual. And frankly, if a Aug kid who's a HS freshmen, shines on a team with mostly 8th graders next, they shine on that video highlight reel just the same.

Just because you want it to be true doesnt mean its is true. Coaches will ignore players playing down. They have 100s of options to choose from. Nobody wants a player thats questionable and not playing on a team with players in their grade.

I'm sure you'll be able to find some expensive private school that will offer you a 6k scholorship off 90k yearly tuition. But everyone else will laugh at you and your kid.

Smart and savvy coaches want their recruits to continue develop so by the time they get to college they are ready. That's why you have bio-banding.

I understand that some months ago MLSN would push for remaining BY, but now it's clear that they have lost the battle.

So if they don't want to lose the market war against USCS/ECNL/USYS/etc they'd better join SY.

"If you cannot defeat your enemy, join him."

Nobody in MlS is worried losing the market war to ECNL. Sorry

They are winning in many markets for sure but that doesn't mean they can just coast and forget about competitors. They were winning the direct battle against ECNL before and I think they will continue that by just switching to SY like everyone else and continue winning. It makes no sense for them to take their foot off the gas now and give ECNL an out. I don't think they care about what BY or SY enough to be emotionally invested in it.

MLS Academy plays up this season and gets beaten. The writing is on the wall for p2p MLS.

D1 recruiting HS kids is too small for this very rare Aug wrong grade thing to jam up all of club soccer. So many more clubs play for wins than recruiting.

Obviously, you have no idea about MLS biobanding players, who are 1 or 2 grades above your kids, 20 to 23 months older, and play down to steal game minutes in the younger team. I am perfectly fine with Aug. players regardless of their grade as it is within a 12 months window.

If a kid can't compete with an Aug kid in their age group, they're not a top player on the team.
Especially if you are a Sept kid thinking recruitment is possible.

They are playing down a grade. For a recruiter they're looking for top talent that will graduate a specific year.

How do you evaluate a player thats graduating a certain year but playing at a level below everyone else that's graduating that year?

It's not just bio-banding, tho. It's where can the kid be their best and become the best they can be. Have you heard of Taka? So, for Aug bdays, in most cases, that means Aug-Jul age group under new SY system.

Because they evaluate more than just from league play. There's showcases, ID camps, summer camps and usually the top kids get invites to all sorts of things that have nothing to do with what team they are on. The team/league just helps to open the door. And those invites are from coaches and scouts watching them play over several seasons, so even players are teams that don't win can and do get opportunities.
