Biden took himself off the ticket. Sure, lots of people were calling for it, but he had to find enough humility to bow out and unite the party by endorsing Harris. With Trump that's a lost cause.

The hypocrisy of people who clutched their pearls over Biden’s debate performance but could not care less about Trump doing things far more alarming on the daily is just mind-boggling. I think Biden is a great man and was a great president. History will be kind to him. But I saw that performance and knew it was time for him to go. Why can’t republicans hold their presidential candidates to even the lowest of employment standards. Imagine Trump walking into a McDonalds and asking for a job. No way on Earth would they hire an 80 year old convicted felon. His lack of social skills wouldn’t even get him past the interview phase.

Had we not nominated someone who wouldn't be viable as an incumbent four years later, a Trump second term would very likely not have happened. Our mistake was in 2020; not 2024.

Oh F no. Our problem was ever letting this POS grifter dirtbag ever get elected in 2016. Anyone who voted for him is responsible for this sh*t.

Trump getting elected in 2016 wasn't the cause of Trump getting elected in 2024. Biden being a weak and unpopular sitting POTUS combined with the same brainless fools who have supported Trump since 2016 is how Trump was elected in 2024..

AGain, Oh F no. I'm sick of the Biden BS. The people responsible for this poopshow are Trump voters. Period There is no word adequate to describe their stupidity, gullibility or just plain evilness. They SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK. Anyone who EVER thought this guy could be a competent POTUS is a complete and utter moron. I need a stronger word than moron.

It’s just a troll, don’t let it get to you. I don’t know what it is that they get out of parenting the Biden BS, but it seems pathological.

Lol parroting, not parenting. However, it does seem like they could use a little adult supervision.

The loss of inhibition and self-control,
and the loss of filter that Trump has been exhibiting lately show that his dementia is accelerating. Dementia isn’t just about forgetfulness – – it’s much more.

You can't put this all on Biden. If Mitch McConnell had supported Trump's impeachment after J6 then Trump would have been disqualified in 2024.

That's like saying "WWII is Hitlers fault".

Republicans are a known evil. The challenge is how Democrats and Independents can stop them.

It’s always been a feature and not a bug for the GOP. Isolate him from real news and reality, substitute the reality that benefits them, and then march grandpa around to bark at things.

Some (Cheney, Kinzinger, Romney, etc.) stood up for what was right. McConnell himself said that Trump was responsible for the riot. He just didn't put his money where his mouth was.

I effing hate McConnell but I think it is possible that he tried to convince Senate Republicans privately to vote to convict and the votes weren’t there so it wasn’t worth making a push for it publicly.

+1. McConnell had no problem abusing his power to pack the courts, but he was too craven to take the heat that would have come with convicting Trump and protecting the country.

He's a coward that didn't deserve to be employed for decades by the taxpayers.

Trump would have beaten everyone else in the Dem race in 2020, so our authoritarian rule would be firmly entrenched now if not for Biden.

Trump in 2020 was less popular than Biden was in 2024. He had a 1% chance of winning. Swing voters would have swung to just about anyone with a pulse over Trump in 2020 and they'll again take their frustration with Trump out on the 2028 GOP nominee. Swing voters will continue to flip flop in this manner until a reasonably popular and fit president is elected again. The numbers don't lie. Swing voters swing in the hope for "change" when the incumbent party is unpopular while 80% to 85% of the electorate continues to be party loyal.

This is fiction and not at all what polling showed at the time. Biden led Trump in general election polling while Sanders, Warren, Bloomberg et al did not.

The polling at the time does not support your narrative. Biden was the only democrat in the race who could beat Trump.

If 77 year old Biden was truly the only nominee a major political party in a country of 335 million people could come up with to beat a very unpopular incumbent with a job approval rating consistently below 40%, that major party is no longer a viable major party. Trump was by far the weakest incumbent seeking re-election since Carter and most of us would choose Carter over Trump any day. There was a reason behind the "Biden is the only one who can beat Trump" messaging campaign.
