Unless the owner is letting them off of the leash to run around on the field, dogs are not scary or a distraction. Plus, its usually people bringing retrievers and labs to sports practice, not some sort of aggressive pit bull. Stop projecting your issues onto your children. Humans and dogs have lived together for thousands of years, it is extremely unnatural for a child to be scared of dogs unless there is a dog bite issue involved. Have you ever seen toddlers playing with puppies? It’s amazing, the two go hand in hand. You might be from a culture where dogs aren’t liked because there are issues with aggressive street dogs, but the US is a dog country so get used to it.

So many things wrong with the above statement. Dogs are always a distraction. Whether you are scared of them or not. Most people love to watch dogs. Plenty of times families have brought their big dogs to t-ball and little league and allowed them off leash. Dogs running around in the dugout, among other families, and in the outfield. I don't need your dog trying to be friendly while I'm watching the game or running up to my kids. I have one kid afraid (never been bit) and one that wants to go pet it. I would never let my kids pet a dog I don't know unless the owner says its ok and only if I'm right there. So many of you act like a dog can't just snap without warning or as a result of something you didn't realize or fully understand. My parents had a dog who spent a lot of team with two teenage family members. He seemed to care for them and the girls liked spending time with him. One time, he was in the car and the girls were going to get in when he started growling at them from inside the car. Luckily, my parents were watching all of this and calmed him. Why did he growl at people he knows well? No one knows. But, it can happen to the best of dogs.
I'm as American as they come and your mentality of "get used to it" is ridiculous. I like dogs, but why should I get used to something that's not supposed to be there (school)? You are forcing your will on other people and think its ok. Never mind that its not legal in many counties?

Unless there are leash laws on the field, parents have just as much right to bring a dog as you have to bring your child. If your child is so easily distracted then that’s your problem, no one else’s. Just as the world doesn’t revolve around dogs, it also doesn’t revolve around your child. Our school doesn’t have a leash law. I’m not a fan of some dog breeds but that my own issue to resolve, I can’t get angry because someone is bring their dog to pickup. We are creating a nation of kids who are scared of every little thing, it’s ridiculous.

I don't know where you live but leash laws are enforced on public property and public schools are public land. Dogs should be on a leash.

You could be at a private school so maybe they are fine with dogs off leash but that would not fly in most public schools.

The schools in my county have signs telling people that dogs are not allowed on the property. People still bring dogs but they should not be.

MCPS has TONS of leash laws that parents ignore constantly. It's infuriating.

Dogs are animals. Dogs are not people. Equating what one does with a dog to what one does with a child is 100% BS.

Furthermore, schools and school grounds are for children. They are not for dogs. Dogs have no business being near schools or on school grounds when the schools are in session.

To the pp dog owners: why do you intentionally break the law with an attitude of ‘get over it’?

Because they are entitled losers.

Now tell me why the "cop" on this thread intentionally broke far more serious laws?

What? Laws are laws. No one's talking murder here. Keep your freaking dog away from kids. Period.

It was a simple question and it wasn't very difficult. You have gone on and on about leash laws and how dog owners are entitled losers, control freaks (ironically), etc etc. Yet when someone claims to be a cop and openly threatens to abuse their power to support your position there are crickets. When someone claims to have committed animal abuse (another law) and destruction of property (which is what killing a pet is considered) in support of your position there are crickets.

In Virginia destruction of property is a felony over $1k. Coincedentally, guess what the average price of a golden retriever puppy is.

So once again, multiple felonies = not a problem. A class 4 misdemeanor (ie: $250 fine) = 😱

If you’re too busy to walk your dog don’t have one.

Not too busy, choosing taking time to spend time with our kids by walking 30 min roundtrip instead of having them ride their bikes alone. It's all about balance/choices. I can bring my dog and be respectful of the rules/other people.

It's so nice that you are giving yourself permission to be a pest.

Nice opinion you've got there. Dogs are going to be there anyway though.

You're just too lazy to actually walk your dog. That's why you let your big lab mix run around the school grounds and slobber on strangers. Also nobody wants their kids to step on poop on the playground.
