It’s funny to watch the marks in the GOP base — believing the lies they are fed while the Roberts 6 decides against them, and for corporations and billionaires, 100 times out of 100.
Do you really not understand how you’re being screwed and how these insane gun policies snooker you? |
| Equally entertaining are the gun nuts who think the NRA represents them. NRA shills for gun manufacturers, and no one else--certainly not their members. |
+1000 All they care about is gun sales. Which is why they don't want common sense gun reforms that would keep guns out of the hands of criminals because that drives demand. |
As an essential worker in a demographically diverse DC work environment with overwhelmingly POC support staff (healthcare), I agree with this. Some people act offended if you ask them to put down their phone and do their damn job. I still am left of center, but decades of living in EOTP DC have made me more moderate. DC throws tons of money and resources at “vulnerable” populations. It’s not working. |
Violence interrupters are a joke! |
DP. Regardless of your factual vacuity, the Constitution isn't interpreted by popular vote. Twelve justices on the Supreme Court do that. |
There are nine Justices on the Supreme Court. Missed that day in civics? |
| Here’s a novel concept. Instead of engaging in all these pointless left vs right macro debates on gun policy why don’t we just research the policies that were in place from 2011-2014, when DC had no more than 110 murders and had one year with 88, the lowest number since 1985 at least. |
If there aren’t 12 justices on the Supreme Court by 2023, and hopefully more, you can flush this country down the toilet. The Koch goal is really to turn us into Somalia — to a nation flooded with guns, with no consequences for regular shootings (we are already basically there) and with rightwing billionaires ensconced in private estates with private security forces. That’s Somalia - libertarian paradise. |
| Why don’t we just research how Canada has low gun crime? Handgun ban. Or Australia. Gun ban. There’s plenty of examples — even Putin has strong gun laws in his country, while he cozies up to the NRA to flood our streets with guns to destabilize the US. |

Watch the video. Listen to Nixon Judge Burger’s words.
Reportedly, Warren Burger was affectionately referred to by his clerks as “doughnut,” because his head was white in the outside and had nothing in the middle. His ill-informed, unsupported (and unsupportable) emotionalist private opinion is not some holy grail of Constitutional interpretation. The “collective” right interpretation of the Second Amendment is inconsistent with the plain meaning of the text, has been thoroughly discounted by researchers and has in so many words been rejected by the Supreme Court. In short, who cares what doddering “Doughnut” thought.
I see. You want to listen to “Selected By Billionaires” Scalia, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, Barrett, Alito, and Roberts instead? Good luck with that. The Fed Soc judges are driving this country into autocracy to reward the donors that selected them. And you’re attacking a Nixon hardcore conservative Chief Justice who is merely echoing what 95% of America thought, even the NRA, before Selected By Scaife Scalia took over the court.
DP. Regardless of your factual vacuity, the Constitution isn't interpreted by popular vote. Twelve justices on the Supreme Court do that.
There are nine Justices on the Supreme Court. Missed that day in civics?
When Joe appoints four additional Justices this winter, the court will no longer be held hostage by RWNJs. They’ll hear a definitive second amendment case next spring, and reverse everything that nazi Scalia did. Then it’s bye bye to your cherished guns. Or you go to jail. It’s going to be an amazing year to come. |
| Returning to the issue at hand: People are shooting hard working, innocent bystanders. |
And the message from Democrats is abstract woke stuff, defund police, or let prisoners out early... |
Apples to oranges comparison. El Salvador has tough gun laws compared to Switzerland. The murder rate was 36 per 100k in El Salvador in 2019 and .54 to 100k in Switzerland during the same year. Comparing the US to countries with completely different populations and income inequality levels is pointless. |

For the uninitiated, no gun can fire itself. Somebody must buy it. Learn how to use it. Buy ammunition. Load the ammunition. Decided to carry it. Decide to point it. Decide to fire it. Lots of steps in between.
