This is science: schools are safe.

Are you going to tell that to my friend's family member who died bringing home covid? Or the teachers who died?
Your kid isn't worth that. The teachers at private catholic schools have sold their souls to 'Jesus' so they don't care about the chance of death.

I'm in person but any kid who has a runny nose I haven't hesitated to put them in our quarantine room, it has made some parents angry but you shouldn't be sending your runny nosed and sneezing kid, until they test negative and even then I'd rather you wait.

I hate DL so I'm back but don't you dare say it's 'safe,' when some parents don't even social distance outside of school, or heck some crazy teachers! When parents STILL try to send their kids in sick...

Of course parents are annoyed with you. DCPS’s agreements list symptoms include “cough, fever, headache, new loss of taste or smell, repeated shaking with chills, sore throat, shortness of breath, and muscle pain.”

Neither runny nose nor sneezing are considered meaningful symptoms by themselves.

But, sure, go ahead and make up your own diagnosis. Maybe you could go ahead and send the short kids to the quarantine room along with the allergy sufferers.

Don't give AF, I will. I have had positive cases in my classroom. Maybe you should practice what you preach and social distance, instead of traveling for Winter break.
I'm not dying because you are lazy and selfish. BTW we have had a positive case and all they had was a runny nose and a fever, but the fever was lower than what DCPS said isn't acceptable. Only found out it was covid because this parent kindly gave the ok for testing, they thought it was just allergies too. Pffft.

Take several seats because covid doesn't always look like covid, some people react so mildly, while others are on their deathbed sick.

I for one am totally OK with sending a runny nosed kid to the quarantine room and having them do a rapid test! Isn't that the whole point of testing availability?

Other than that, I don't know where you possibly could teach because we don't have public teachers in person here.

Beyond that, you sound like an awful person and I am glad you're not teaching my kids (since when is it just fine to say nasty things about Catholics?)

Sounds like she should change careers. Bovuous she is selling her soul because she has gone back to teach because she hates DL but doesn’t believe it’s safe. Well then get out of the profession and do something else.

What, you want us to give you a trophy for stepping up with that terrible attitude?

BTW it is safe once you are vaccinated so then get the damn vaccine. Put up or shut up.

Did I ask for a trophy white B? And I'm glad I'm not your kids teacher, I really hate you fake european white families, who pretend to care about black and brown ones but sit in your privilege and keep systematic racism in tact.

You sound nice and perfect for working with small children.

NP here but you said you had a positive case in your class but you didn’t get COVID. So doesn’t that mean the protocols are working? Or it isn’t as contagious as previously thought? Does that not give some solace that exposure to COVID doesn’t mean automatically contracting COVID?

And as a side note I’ve lived with two COVID positive people on two different occasions who were symptomatic. No one else in the house contracted covid.

It could be that or the fact that I am diligent myself and convinced all my parents to say yes to covid testing or just luck.

But you're right, the experience just scared me and being 24, well I'd like to live.
Thank you for sharing your experience, I'm hopeful there will be no more cases as the vaccine disseminates.

Make no mistake I am a great teacher but I have no invested interest in many of the self-serving parents on this forum. I understand this isn't my space as a non-white teacher and mother but you invade POC spaces daily.

I used to come here for info but now you might as well call this the teacher hate circle jerk club...

PP again but yes that is fair enough. Hopefully there will be no more cases in your classroom!

They didn’t file one, instead going straight to arbitration. The WTU site might have a list of the specific MOA violations.

Ty! I didn’t see on the website, but I’ll dig more.

News flash. I’m not white, am a minority and I don’t live in affluent NW.

Also, why don’t you ask what I did for my black and brown neighbors and their kids for Xmas in addition to throughout the year.

So your assumptions are completely wrong.

Lastly, YOU and the teachers who are against going back and the WTU are the ones against black and brown kids. Let’s get real. Many of these kids won’t be reading by 3rd grade with missing over a year of school and we all know that a huge percentage of these kids won’t finish school.

My family is full of teachers. They are generally ashamed of their union leaders and the wacko demands of some districts (LA). They see so many private schools opening without major issues and know it’s a sham to keep publics closed. They want health and safety too, but they know they are just as essential as so many other professions that have carried on through it all. For now, too many vulnerable kids are falling further behind — while those with means seek out private pods or private schools...

Sadly, I do think this situation is setting back the profession of teaching a couple of decades. The good will the profession has gained from families of school aged children has evaporated. The arguments about (supposedly) low salaries and IMPACT will be met with eye rolls.

Ok. But the lovely thing about schools is wools move on. In 5 more years these kids won’t be in elementary anymore and lots of parents will have graduated out of the system. No one is going to be thinking about this on 5-10 years. No one. Look how fast we have moved past Sandy Hook and other school shootings where children literally died. By this time next year, no one is going to care anymore. Life goes on.

Your post is like a woke catch-phrase randomizer.

The only way to stop discriminating on the basis of race, is to stop discriminating on the basis of race. Any institution or person who *isn't* colorblind is precisely the problem.

Come on not everyone blames teachers for schools being closed. The union may have gone too far, but I certainly do not have less respect for teachers. It is not surprising many are not enthusiastic about going back. Eventhough study after study show that opening schools is low risk, many if not most parents do not believe the studies. You can talk until you are blue in the face they will not buy it. Many parents and council members have lobbied to keep schools closed because of fear. One cannot expect teachers to behave differently, and in fact many teachers have stepped up to the plate for in person learning. For me it is the politicians who were to blame particularly the dc council who should have lobbied on behalf of children based on science like politicians in Europe are doing.
