NP here but you said you had a positive case in your class but you didn’t get COVID. So doesn’t that mean the protocols are working? Or it isn’t as contagious as previously thought? Does that not give some solace that exposure to COVID doesn’t mean automatically contracting COVID? And as a side note I’ve lived with two COVID positive people on two different occasions who were symptomatic. No one else in the house contracted covid. |
It could be that or the fact that I am diligent myself and convinced all my parents to say yes to covid testing or just luck. But you're right, the experience just scared me and being 24, well I'd like to live. Thank you for sharing your experience, I'm hopeful there will be no more cases as the vaccine disseminates. |
Teachers make fun of all you crazy parents all the time. |
And trying to teach your child to be 'colorblind' while ignoring systematic racism is lovely? Make no mistake I am a great teacher but I have no invested interest in many of the self-serving parents on this forum. I understand this isn't my space as a non-white teacher and mother but you invade POC spaces daily. I used to come here for info but now you might as well call this the teacher hate circle jerk club... |
The one being hateful is you. |
PP again but yes that is fair enough. Hopefully there will be no more cases in your classroom! |
Ty! I didn’t see on the website, but I’ll dig more. |
News flash. I’m not white, am a minority and I don’t live in affluent NW. Also, why don’t you ask what I did for my black and brown neighbors and their kids for Xmas in addition to throughout the year. So your assumptions are completely wrong. Lastly, YOU and the teachers who are against going back and the WTU are the ones against black and brown kids. Let’s get real. Many of these kids won’t be reading by 3rd grade with missing over a year of school and we all know that a huge percentage of these kids won’t finish school. |
Also curious what their standing is |
Well, a lot of us who used to respect you and your profession no longer do. So, here we are. |
My family is full of teachers. They are generally ashamed of their union leaders and the wacko demands of some districts (LA). They see so many private schools opening without major issues and know it’s a sham to keep publics closed. They want health and safety too, but they know they are just as essential as so many other professions that have carried on through it all. For now, too many vulnerable kids are falling further behind — while those with means seek out private pods or private schools... |
Sadly, I do think this situation is setting back the profession of teaching a couple of decades. The good will the profession has gained from families of school aged children has evaporated. The arguments about (supposedly) low salaries and IMPACT will be met with eye rolls. |
Ok. But the lovely thing about schools is wools move on. In 5 more years these kids won’t be in elementary anymore and lots of parents will have graduated out of the system. No one is going to be thinking about this on 5-10 years. No one. Look how fast we have moved past Sandy Hook and other school shootings where children literally died. By this time next year, no one is going to care anymore. Life goes on. |
Your post is like a woke catch-phrase randomizer. The only way to stop discriminating on the basis of race, is to stop discriminating on the basis of race. Any institution or person who *isn't* colorblind is precisely the problem. |
Come on not everyone blames teachers for schools being closed. The union may have gone too far, but I certainly do not have less respect for teachers. It is not surprising many are not enthusiastic about going back. Eventhough study after study show that opening schools is low risk, many if not most parents do not believe the studies. You can talk until you are blue in the face they will not buy it. Many parents and council members have lobbied to keep schools closed because of fear. One cannot expect teachers to behave differently, and in fact many teachers have stepped up to the plate for in person learning. For me it is the politicians who were to blame particularly the dc council who should have lobbied on behalf of children based on science like politicians in Europe are doing. |
