The only social currency white women have is their sexual attraction to men. When that goes, society wants to push them off on an ice flow. Since we can't do that, we tell them to STFU and stand quietly in the corner where their aging body and appearance won't offend anyone's eyeballs.

Tell me I'm wrong.

You are wrong.

This is absolutely true if all you are good at is "being a woman," or if that is all you care about being judged in terms of, for social currency.

If you are good at journalism (Cokie Roberts), practicing medicine (Lee Beers), writing poetry (Mary Oliver), animal management (Temple Grandin), acting (so many: Judi Dench, Tilda Swinton, Cate Blanchett), mathematics (Mary Lucy Cartwright), and so on and so forth -- yes, there is discrimination, but many people care very much about what you have to do and say.

But after a certain age, you do have to bring more to the table than just "being a woman." That's true.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA "And so forth"?? You describe EIGHT middle aged white women in all of history, and THAT'S ENOUGH FOR YOU???

How many examples do you want?

It's not easy, that's true. You actually have to do something of value. Lots of women do. You should, too.

Oh I do a shit ton of things of value. My greatest value in any organization is to give white men something to he-peat and get promoted for. Have been doing that for decades.

How many counterexamples do you need to show you that "The only social currency white women have is their sexual attraction to men" is not valid?

What's the line of proof, for you? How many?

She started yelling and filming. Trader joes intervened and called the police. When someone is doing something wrong I don’t care what color you are, I’m speaking up.

Karens are also security guards.

I am AA. One of my nieces worked at the Lord & Taylor in Chevy Chase several years ago. She said white women would shoplift all the time, especially nicely dressed elderly white women, and security would escort them out the door after retrieving the shoplifted items. If the shoplifters were AA or Latino, security would more often than not call the police.

This was true of my DD’s experience working at Bloomingdale’s and Nordstrom. Security at Nordstrom was very familiar with one woman and would just call her DH to pay for the purchases.

Of course they do. White women are a majority here after all. Sometimes I bring my own bag to the grocery store. If I am buying just a few items, and many do not offer baskets any more. I don't want to push the huge cart for a couple of items. I stuff them in my grocery bag, I pay, but it sure might look like differently. Do you know how many times I had the police called on me? Or security follow me around? ZERO times! Guess my skin color? Yep, tots white.

Thank you for this example! As an African American woman, I would never do this -- and I am careful to get receipts so that if I go to another store before I go home, I can prove that I purchased the things in my bag at another store. When MoCo started charging for shopping bags even at department stores, their practice of asking customers if we wanted bags really stunned me. So: Saks is fine with having me leave the store with an armload of merchandise that's not in a shopping bag? Um, right. They really should have just eaten that cost themselves.

Supreme Court Justices?

You are aware that there are, well, female justices on the SCOTUS? Odd that they have "no social currency."

I guess if you want to redefine words, you can make any claim you want.

You make hyperbolic claims, and they are wrong.

Don't say it if you don't want to be held accountable for it.

Many life tenured middle aged white female federal judges. Men jump everyday when those gals say jump. I especially love doing that at 4:30 pm on the Friday before a Holiday weekend.

Shame the original claim was made in absolute terms, not relative.

That isn't a mic drop. It's a wet raspberry, and just as inconsequential.

Exactly.

I mean, it shouldn't be harder for women to get there than men. That's its own problem. But it's just not true that women are necessarily cast aside, totally, as being worthless at a certain age. That's being bitter because you lost YOUR social currency, and no more.

Do you really think you are talking to only one white woman here? Multiple women replied to you.

The person who said "only social currency" was using hyperbole, and all you could find to "win" an argument with her, and then us, was to bully on and on and on with your "ONLY?"" "prove it! I can disprove it! You're weak!" Shut up. Get on your bike and go shove some walkers off the trail.

DP. I didn't realize people still believed meritocracy was a thing. I'm not suggesting that Cate Blanchett doesn't deserve to be recognized or whatnot, but women who are still considered relevant in middle age and up are both rare and privileged. Most middle aged women of all ethnicities are the ones taking care of the kids and aging parents while the (mostly) white men float to the top of their little fishbowls like lardy turds.

Anonymous wrote:I am the OP, not a troll. And an example of when I might have spoken in the past but did not recently. I ordered curbside pick up from a local smoothie shop a few weeks ago, before we were in phase 1 opening, the restaurant was advertising curbside Pick-up. I ordered my smoothie online, however, When I drove to the shop to pick it up there are a line of people inside the store to order and a line waiting (Inside as well) at the counter to pick up their smoothies. A year ago if this happened, pre-Karen meme, I would have said something along the lines of aren’t we supposed to be doing curbside? Why is everybody in the store? This time I just walked away.

This is obviously a joke. You guys are being trolled so hard. [/quote

Perhaps. But at least the discussions are entertaining and informative.

This is me too but isn't it just a tad ... ego-centric ... to make this your hill to die on this week of all weeks?
