Elizabeth Holmes, CEO of Theranos, finally charged

Anonymous wrote:Federal prosecutors have asked a judge to sentence disgraced Theranos CE0 Elizabeth Holmes to 15 years in prison, arguing she deserves a lengthy prison term because her massive scheme duped investors out of hundreds of millions of dollars by falsely convincing them her company had developed a revolutionary blood testing device.

Calling the case “one of the most substantial white collar offenses Silicon Valley or any other District has seen,” prosecutors vehemently rejected defense attorneys' characterization that Holmes had been unfairly victimized, in part by media coverage.

Holmes is set to appear for sentencing on Nov. 18 in federal court in San Jose, California, nearly a year after she was convicted of three felony counts of wire fraud and one felony count of conspiracy to commit fraud. She faces up to 20 years in prison for each count.

Anyone care to weigh in on what her sentence may be?

His letter said Holmes "has within her a sincere desire to help others" by fighting climate change and world hunger.

After SBF I wish that the very rich or would be very rich just stop trying to transform society...and using those intentions to justify ripping off scads of people. Just go spend your billions on yachts instead.

Criminal defense lawyers recently told Bloomberg Holmes' sentencing could send a warning shot to Silicon Valley companies that run on hopes and dreams.

We'll see. She is very visibly pregnant with her second child and unclear how that could sway her sentencing.

She won't be pregnant in jail. She still can appeal her sentencing, and won't have to serve any time until appeals are exhausted. I do think she will serve some time. 2-4 years.

Nope. She’s out. And since 2018 she’s gotten married and also just had a baby.

And she married rich! Her husband's family is mega rich.

I will never understand knowing what he knows about her why the husband jumped into a marriage with her?

Nuts, college dropout, tens of millions in legal fees, and facing jail-time. What about that said 'yes perfect spouse and mother'?

I don't really get it, either, but honestly I think a lot of people love "bold thinkers" with "big ideas." That's probably going to be her defense strategy in court: she didn't commit a fraud, she's just a genius who had a big idea that didn't pan out, and Big Pharma/The Government/"Society" just don't get it and are jealous. This dude essentially fell for the personal version of that story.

And anyways, white collar crime sentences aren't that heavy, she'll be out in a couple of years if convicted.

She'll get at least 10. She had a baby to delay the trial, she's quite the sociopath.

Remember Enron....

She will get home detention if anything. Otherwise, the baby grows up without a mother.

Who cares? There are babies born in prison every day. He'll raise it as a single father for five years and move on.

And what do we have here 11.5 years in federal prison...

How old is her child? Not sure what I think of someone getting pregnant while awaiting trial with a potentially long sentence.

I think we can be pretty sure that she doesn't make good judgments.

The AP reported her first child is 1. Not sure when the second will be born.

3. This is her SECOND pregnancy since being indicted. Trying to use both kids on trial to sway the jury. Didn't work.

She’s nearly 40 now so probably doesn’t want to put off having kids.
