DC Public and Public Charter Schools
He's making 8x the national median income. He could have lived in-bounds if Dunbar was such a bad choice. |
He has 3 kids. He’s the chancellor. He can’t claim to be ignorant of the ramifications of choosing a particular feeder pattern. I feel terribly for his daughter though. Just moved to DC. Bad experience at one school and now publicly pulled out do the second one. And good luck entering a private at this point in the year (which will also look bad for her dad.) |
She’s being homeschooled for the remainder of the school year. |
| He should put her in a parochial, maybe St. John's or Visi or Elizabeth Seton (Bowser's Alma mater). There she'd be safe and actually learn something. |

Hey, hey, ho, ho
Cheatin' Antwan's got to go! |
|
He should resign or be fired less for punitive reasons than because there is no way he can be effective from here on out. Who would listen to him on anything?
All those posts on here where people scold others for boundary cheating? A joke. Every time some scold tries to say that everyone should go to their inbounds school because it’s the right thing to do to help all DC school and children? LMAO |

Huh? Uh, he issued a letter of apology where he said he was wrong. He clearly concedes that the way he got his daughter into Wilson was not within keeping with the policy he wrote. |
+1 He also gave Ellington two weeks, which is not enough time to establish that special needs could not be met. |
Where has 2 weeks been reported? |

I'm surprised that the Chancellor and his wife handled the situation so badly from the start. It makes me think they always assumed that since he is Chancellor, the rules don't apply to them and they will be fine. First, at least cover your bases and move in bounds to Wilson. Second, Duke Ellington is a risky choice unless you are very talented and want to single mindedly pursue your passion. It is not exactly known for high level academics which may have been the issue for his daughter. Maybe the academics were too easy for her coming from CA. Pure conjecture on my part here and I could be wrong. I assume they were also wowed by the new building. Third, how bad was her situation at Duke Ellington? Unless it is a bullying or safety issue, most families would ride out the year and then try to move inbounds to Wilson or enter the lottery again. Kids do move around but generally not mid-year so much.
Like the Washington Post, I really question his judgement and common sense. Also, all he seems to have done is add additional layers of beauracracy to central office. He was a terrible choice and i am going to hold Mayor Bowser accountable for her decision to hire him. Grosso is a complete loser and has no credibility on education at this point. |
| I am still. Shocked that he would move IB for Dunbar, not think about middle school, lottery for a “meh” school. Something tells me the mayor got a friend to rent him a place for free. Why else would any new resident making $300k move to Brookland with 3 kids? I could see if his kids were under 5. |
It is bizarre to all of us, but people make strange decisions every day. Maybe his kid saw too many episodes of Fame and then got to Ellington and realized it wasn’t like that. Or his wife changed her mind once she got to town. Or the kid was being bullied. Or who knows what his finances are like. They could he not sold a house from one of his previous posts. But it really doesn’t matter. In a way, having no good IB options should make him passionate or provide more of a sense of urgency about his work. Unlike Niles, Bowser or Grosso he has kids and gets that we all want them to have good schools. |
Like religious fairy tales? He's the public school chancellor- his kids belong in public schools. |
Late coming to this story so surely this has already been mentioned. WaPo said she was going to Ellington. Ellington!!! My daughter went there and it’s safer than Wilson! Kid could have toughed it out there and found a different school the following year. This smacks hugely of entitlement. |
