They are not the end of the quarter, or before a long weekend, or before TWDs, or before a holiday. 9/14 is just sitting on a Weds in the middle of the week, less than a month after school starts.

What’s the logic?

There's no logic. FCPS is now run by morons.

You should run for school board.

To tell them that a 3 hour ealy release on Wed 9/14, less than 3 weeks after school starts, in the middle of the week, near no other days off, for no apparent reason, is dumb? They couldn’t figure this out on their own?

Actually, it’s not. It’s 2 full weeks and just one day shorter than this year’s. It’s the week of Christmas and the full week after. Kids aren’t back until Jan 7. (This year’s is the week before Christmas and the week of Christmas plus one day for New Years.)

I'm the PP who made the (wrong) comment about the shorter Winter Break.

THANK YOU for clearing it up! I was looking at the wrong info!

YAY!

These are the same folks who said we had too little instructional time before the AP tests, so we had to start even earlier, but then make the winter break two weeks long and add these random BS student holidays in the calendar.

The illogic is astounding. It appears to me the real intent of FCPS is keep kids out of school as much as possible.

I am not a fan of the schedule. Ugh.

Pre-labor day start
3 days of for Thanksgiving
Holiday break way too long
Early dismissal on random days
Getting out mid June is for what benefit?

I was ok with an early start for earlier June last day. Looks like random half days, extra day for thanksgiving and too long of a winter break. And 3hr release. How much instruction will happen on those days? Ugh.

The logic on that one I think is to throw a bone to the people celebrating Yom Kippur. I think (thankfully) that when they are planning something that week anyway, that now they are at least consider putting somewhere to help people celebrating the holiday a bit.

Apparently 30K kids are out the Wed. before Tgiving, that's why they are giving that day off. They mention it in the video someone posted in this thread.

Now folks will just be out the Tues. before the Wed. off day.

I hate how the back ended winter break to have off post new years vs before Christmas. Guess my kids will just have to miss school. Traveling on the weekend before Christmas is too expensive and risky (everyone travels then). We liked them having off a week before so we could travel on a Mon or Tues. We still will but kids will miss school. Sucks!

Agree. For those of us traveling to spend Christmas with family this really sucks and we will likely have a miss a few days of school given ticket prices the weekend before Christmas.

I’m totally fine with the new calendar, which I thought I’d mention, since otherwise only the usual complainers will post.

3 hr. early release days seem to be a waste. The kids are just at school for 3 hours. Why did they stop with the 2 hour early release?

As a working parent, I would rather have half day Mondays than the endless teacher work days. The teacher work days are especially tough when they occur the Monday after spring break, or have a two day teacher work day the same week as Veterans Day but they go to school or Veterans day. There's also two day teacher work day in January when we've already had winter break and Martin Luther King Day holiday, plus snow day closures when there's bad weather. Ridiculous.
