Beautiful natural sites were literally like landfills, with piles of food garbage everywhere and aggressive monkeys all over the place. The locals are desperate to make money and honk at you from their cars, hoping you'll hire them as a day driver. The honking is incessant and the fumes are horrible. I was so, so surprised and disappointed. It was just filthy, and t-shirt shacks are EVERYWHERE. Those gorgeous tiered rice paddies? The most famous one has exactly ONE place to stand where you can frame the shot without a shirt shack.

Phuket also sucked. We stayed in a very expensive resort on on of the higher end beaches, but every time we ventured out it was dirty, smelled, the taxi mafia is unreal, and there's a scam around every corner. If you'e going to Thailand, skip that mess and go to the wonderful Chiang Mai instead! Bangkok is also far better.

Your description of Bali sounds like Kuta, the most touristy part. I loved Bali, and I thought it still had lots of natural beauty. The monkeys can be aggressive, though. I saw one steal a woman's glasses off of her head.

Yes, we drove into Canada and the first big rest area we came to was FILTHY - right off the interstate - there were used tampons on the floor and no toilet paper - my first impression was a bad one. Also the border crossing guards were absolute assholes.

Yes! I wanted to say, "I'm sorry, but NOT all Americans are so enthralled with Canada that we're intending to overstay."

Did you cross in New York? Someone told us (a Canadian) that that's where the border patrol officers are trained and they're super hard-core there. I hope I never see a Tim Horton's again.

No, I flew into Pearson.

Disney World. We hated it. The kids hated it. It was mobbed, outdated and had terrible food. Barely anything had been updated since DH and I were little. The kids didn't care about most of the characters/attractions and after a few fast passes didn't understand why we couldn't fast pass everything. We are so thankful we didn't stay at an official resort, because at least we got a break from the Disney fanatics.

Ugh, this is my fear about DW and why I've been putting off a trip there. I could totally see myself saying this. Kids are ok without it for the moment but not sure if that will last.

Not all of Italy, but Rome for sure. Went back in 2012 after 30 years and was disappointed by how hard it was to get a decent meal near the Pantheon, how hot, dirty and crowded it was, and how everyone spoke English. I could barely practice my Italian. Italy is still awesome, but you have to go off the beaten path.

Yes. Found Rome disappointing for all the reasons you listed. Venice and Florence were great.

Honestly DS wanted to go so bad and really only liked one thing. DD didn't mind it as much but both said their favorite thing about the entire trip was the hotel pool. They asked if we could go back to a beach instead next year and haven't said a word about the trip since we've been back. That was April. It cost as much or more as a nice tropical all inclusive. Never again.

So what. This is what most visitors to the USA have to deal with.

Just answer the questions and move on.

Chiang Mai is amazing. Phuket does suck.

Ko lanta was a special place ten years ago.
