Do you think the Pimmit Hills area will eventually become upscale?

We bought in the Pine Spring-Jackson-Falls Church pyramid instead and, so far, have been very happy with the schools. I agree with PP that there are a lot of snobs in the Marshall district now. We know our schools aren't rated the highest in the area, and that's fine with us. We like that our kids are exposed to greater diversity and that the parents aren't "McLean wanna-be's," which is the impression we got about Pimmit Hills. So please enjoy your McMansions and continue to say negative things about our area. We like it better this way.

To be fair, Pimmit Hills is within the McLean Citizens Association area and has had to really work to have a presence there. So in a way they aren't McLean wannabees since they are already part of the organization. I have yet to meet a Pimmit Hills snob. Agree there is a crazy PH poster online but she or he are probably just a long time resident wanting to sell soon. The neighborhood is mainly middle income families and individual people just trying to make a living in Fairfax County. I think they are happy all their hard work on improving the area is paying off. That's all. I do think there is a bit less diversity in Pimmit than 22042, but there's more than in Vienna or McLean. We live somewhere else now, but I thought Pimmit was the most convenient and friendly place I've lived in. I hope it does well.

To build on that, PH kids are eligible to participate in McLean Youth sports leagues, and Marshall students can opt to attend McLean High.

With regard to diversity, I've never seen a more diverse place than PH, both income- and ethnicity-wise. Off the top of my head, we know PH families from France, Bolivia, Turkey, Germany, Australia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Philippines, India, Pakistan, Egypt, Nepal, China, Vietnam etc. That's just the people we know.

I also don't see how it's snobbery to say that Marshall is a better school than FC High, since it happens to be a fact. Plus, "enjoy your McMansions" doesn't really say good things about you.

Not the Falls Church poster, but you do know how disingenuous your comments are, right?

There's a difference between saying Marshall is "better" because it has higher SAT scores than Falls Church (or, for that matter, that Langley, McLean and Madison are all "better" than Marshall because they have higher SAT scores and are rated more highly by U.S. News) and suggesting, as some of the PH folks have done, that people would be "crazy," "morons," etc, to live in the FCHS district.

And I assume the "enjoy your McMansions" comment was a response to the PH boosters who claimed, incorrectly, that no new homes get built in 22042.

But it is nice to hear about the diversity in PH, even if you apparently think less highly of the even greater diversity in other areas.

Why don't you go away and start your own thread "22042 is the bestest in the world"

If you want to have logical and adult conversations instead of making up lies about people. Most of fairfax county agrees that FCHS is not a good choice and your are crazy to think it's only from PH . It's universal and not just a PH thing, I am from McLean and think that people who buy in FCHS are ignorant.

Is this coming from one of the same posters who spammed the other thread about McLean Hamlet with a bunch of unsolicited comments about Pimmit Hills?

Who gives a crap whether you live in McLean? You say that like it gives you some special standing to dump on other neighborhoods. And it hardly means you're objective, either; part of McLean feeds into the Pimmit Hills schools and there are some McLean builders and suppliers who profit if someone decides to do a PH teardown.

No one said 22042 was "the best(est) in the world," but only that the existence of both less and more expensive neighborhoods near Pimmit Hills will impact what "eventually" happens in PH.

I give a crap and as a McLean resident I have the authority to speak about neighborhoods both good and bad because McLean is one of the top areas of the United States (reference most expensive neighborhoods).

Why do insist on coming over to a PH thread and trying to crap all over it? It's goes to show what kind of person you are.

PH is so controversial. I want to love it because it's close to WFC metro but I'm hesitating buying there. My spouse is opposed to PH due to what he associates it with when he was growing up in the late 80s early 90s nearby in a more affluent area. In his mind PH=My name is Earl residents (to exaggerate a tad). I'm the one trying to sell PH for its location and value, but no use. So you'll get people like me, then others still set in their old views. If there are enough people like my spouse, PH will need another 20- 30 years for some perceptions to change.

I live in PH. It is definitely not for everyone. I always tell people that if you have a million dollar budget, PH is not for you because you have lots of options. If you really prefer to live in a place of uniform affluence or aesthetics (and there is nothing wrong with that), PH is not for you. So it's completely legit to prefer something else.

I can tell you what led us to buy there. We both work in DC and will do so for the foreseeable future. When we were looking for a house in 2010, we really, REALLY looked in Arlington, but couldn't find anything at all. My DH would not agree to a condo or a townhouse. I was all set to go to Vienna or Dunn Loring but DH refused to go beyond WFC station, that was his cutoff. Then we discovered PH. At first I turned my nose at it because it was "ghetto." Then I kind of got into how much commuting time we would save if we lived there and not in Vienna. Gradually we came to a point where we refused to look anywhere else. It still took six months to find a suitable house, but three years later, I am REALLY happy with my location, amenities and commute. Thank you, DH.

I have no opinion of the "even greater diversity" in other areas. I simply stated that I find PH a very diverse place, more diverse than any I've lived at. If you want to think that this means I think "less highly" of other places, that's on you.

Another PHer who couldn't agree more. We initially started looking in the Arlington area but couldn't find the type of space we were looking for with the budget we had, then we shifted our search to the Woodson area because we really liked the neighborhoods, but it was further from the Metro and other amenities than we would have liked. It definitely isn't for everyone, but Pimmit Hills offered us everything that we were looking for.

If you look at the other side of the neighborhood the silver line stop is within walking distance is set to have some redevelopment which will produce more walkable amenities.

It seemed like a fair inference, since you were praising the diversity of Pimmit Hills, while claiming in the same post that Marshall is "better" than Falls Church, a more diverse school.

??? That's so tenuous I don't even know what to say. Let's break what I said down:

PH is a diverse neighborhood with a good school. That's a fact.

Marshall is a better school than FCHS. That's also a fact.

That is all.

Whatever else you inferred is on you.

Per Google Maps, it's over a mile and 30 minutes or more to walk to the nearest Silver Line station from the western part of Pimmit Hills. If you want a 15-minute walk that's less than a mile, look at the Hunting Ridge development in McLean, on the other side of Magarity Road from Pimmit Hills and also close to the Commons development that eventually may be redeveloped.

Where the heck is Pimmit Hills? The only place I ever see the place mentioned is on DCUM.

I "inferred," as you "implied." So there's a free lesson to you in both logic and grammar.

Now THAT is all.

That's an overstatement. I live a block away from Magarity and it takes me 20 minutes of casual walking.

But it must be said that no residential development is really in a CLOSE walking distance to McLean station. The Gates of McLean is about the only community I can think of. Everything else is a hike. I mean, it's walkable but it's not a short walk.

That wasn't really a lesson, you're just trying to weasel out of an illogical thing that you said.

The side near McLean metro is less than a mile and unless you are extremely out of shape it should take 15-20 minutes to walk it. New development for the silver will occur starting in the mclean commons which is a stones throw from PH.
