I am watching this thread with bated breath to see if this question will be EVER answered.

If you go to any regular classroom in MCPS there are a range of student abilities. Many students are struggling. Most students do not fit the profile of the magnet students. If you visit a magnet classroom, you will see a difference, not just in the curriculum but in the students.[code]

What's the profile? Blonde and Blue-eyed?

There is no reason to take a class. Your child can prep on his or her own.

You're absolutely correct. But, I wish to take a class. In the USA, the last time I checked, this is within my constitutional rights?

Of course you can take a class. I just don't think it's necessary to spend the time or money. We prepped both of our kids last year ourselves for the middle school magnets and the HGC and both got in. We used materials widely available on the internet and paid for one prep book and one app. So maybe $35.

Not the PP, but can you recommend which app you used?

I think it was called Cogat prep. It was 2.99. This was for the 3rd grader.
