Good article. Wonder who will go to the "listening sessions".

Staff member here. 75+ staff signed up and participated in listening sessions set up by Central Office. They kept offering us additional sessions because they kept filling up. We are told next steps will come soon.

I encourage Springbrook staff to also express their viewpoints outside of those Central Office listening sessions. Because MCPS can and will minimize and sanitize what you all say to make Valentine and themselves look good.

As a parent, I have brought several issues to Ms Valentine regarding issues with the special education program. Each time she has brush me off and sends me off to speak to someone else. I understand that as a principal she may have lot of on her plate, but dismissing a parent more than once is very unprofessional and speaks volumes on how she feels about the special education program.

Keep signing up and showing up SB staff!! They’re counting on compliance and silence.

This. Keep the pressure on until your demands are met.

Good luck Springbrook HS. We are rooting for you. There should be zero tolerance for bullying and intimidation

The listening sessions were very productive. It also highlighted that a majority of the staff were not a part of that negative letter and have not had any negative interactions with Ms. Valentine. Even so, those who have had negative interactions should have some resolve-at least an apology and a course of action to ensure these things don’t happen again.

I’m confused by what you mean by this. 76 staff members went to these listening sessions and all we got was lip service from central office reading directly off of slides and a prepared, insincere speech from Stephanie Valentine. And to add insult to injury she sent a letter to the community that doesn’t even mention any changes she plans to make. She hasn’t even said sorry. In fact, I heard several leaders argued with each other in ILT following that staff meeting. Our climate is not improving, it’s getting worse.

This is so disappointing! Someone explain the value in keeping a principal who is problematic; what the hell is mcps thinking?

Problem principals are mcps 101 theres a whole warehouse of them at Central. Lots of teachers lost there jobs along the way to pay for admin anything goes approach.

Somebody on the pro-Valentine side is working hard to do damage control for her.

Ah. This sounds much more like reality. I’m so sorry that MCPS CO are here trying to gaslight the public.

These problem principals are shielded and protected at all levels of MCPS by OSSI and Taylor himself.

So true. This is 100% a response from someone in the MCPS admin cult.

Why is admin never asked to resign without a big pay out when they mismanage teachers and why do teachers who are new never get the same treatment when we play along with obvious mismanagement that leads to physical, financial, and career harm.

Valentine will be protected by central office to the detriment of the school 🏫
