Five years. They are going to have to renovate inside and out. |
As opposed to the grifters. -DP |
This wins the quote of the day award. |
Crossfield is an anomaly in that much of its population lives closer to other elementary schools, but those are neighborhood elementary schools and Franklin Farm and the surrounding neighborhoods east of Fairfax County Parkway don't have a neighborhood elementary school, so they got placed in Crossfield which is on a busy road without much of a neighborhood surrounding it (except for the one that doesn't want to be there, LOL). Those neighborhoods are much closer to this new school than any other high school in the area. |
The boundary process can stay in tact for the eastern part of the county that wouldn't be impacted. This impacts Chantilly, Westfield, Oakton, South Lakes, and maybe also Herndon and Centerville pyramids. |
You don't know that the new high school won't be IB. |
I would be shocked if the new HS is IB. Some where around 300 kids complete the IB diploma every year across the county. I think more kids pupil place out of IB then complete the degree. It is an expensive program that people are not interested in. |
There was a lot of talk about the Sully district being sent to Oakton during last nights discussion, so I can’t imagine a scenario that doesn’t place Crossfield at either the new school, or less likely, South Lakes. I’m guessing the new school will include Coates, McNair, Floris, and then some combination of Oak Hill, Fox Mill, or Crossfield. If it’s Oak Hill and Fox Mill, then Crossfield would be sent to South Lakes. |
While folks in the eastern part of the county won't be redistricted to the new high school, they are claiming they will save hundreds of millions by purchasing this property. I'd like to see how they might put some of those savings to use renovating and/or expanding schools in eastern Fairfax first before they move kids in that part of the county. Right now it's looking like western Fairfax gets expanded schools + a brand-new school while eastern Fairfax just gets the promise of boundary changes. FTS. |
Add Woodson and Fairfax. If Westfield takes more of Centreville’s western boundary (up to Rt-28) then Centreville could take Willow Springs, and Woodson/Fairfax wouldn’t have to split hairs trying to keep both their middle schools and high schools under 105% |
My guess:
Coates (most) McNair Floris (all) Oak Hill (all) Crossfield (Franklin Farm) Fox Mill stays at South Lakes. Parts of Fox Mill are somewhat closer than Crossfield students, but only a little bit. This would unite Franklin Farm. I am guessing that Emerald Chase would stay at Oak Hill. Remaining problem: Franklin/Carson split feeders |
The two most recent high schools opened (Westfield and South County) both are AP schools. I also think the folks in the area would strongly prefer AP. |
Justice, Langley, Falls Church HS, Madison, West Potomac… I think it’s ridiculous that McLean hasn’t been expanded too, but the eastern part of the county has not been ignored. |
Wow. The facilities are stunning. The campus won awards. There won’t be a need to renovate apart from some minor ed specification issues.

^Do click on the photos to cycle through the slide show: There are beautiful details like the geometric patterns for the screens. Lush courtyards, and a beautiful lobby with terraced seats. The school even has a regulation size interior swimming pool. FCPS really wins with this campus. Westfield looks like a “prison” in comparison. |
